Veg Tanned Leather Changing Colour In The Sun..
276ccm replied to 276ccm's topic in How Do I Do That?
Thanks a lot for the advices! I like to be dedicated to my customers and I always give them a box of leather "grease" to treat the seats, so I can just as well include this, if I find anything suitable.. I´ll do some more research on this :-) Thanks again! -
Veg Tanned Leather Changing Colour In The Sun..
276ccm replied to 276ccm's topic in How Do I Do That?
Thanks Red Bear :-) I would never trying to match those lines hehe Will the leather turn more and more dark, and black on the end for just staying in the sun? Or does the process more or less stop.. I´ve made some seats that in some years turned almost black, for the grease, sun, rain and dirt.. but it took some years. I´m afraid the seats will turn more or less black within some weeks under the Spanish sun for few months in use.. I guess in that case I have to ask customers to cover their seats in plastic when not used. I guess it´s too much fat in sunblock :-) -
Veg Tanned Leather Changing Colour In The Sun..
276ccm replied to 276ccm's topic in How Do I Do That?
Thanks for tips Cheryl, but this is just a piece of scrap leather to test how the sun will affect the veg tanned leather. I´m going to put it some more days in the sun with the same box over it, to see how dark it´ll get, or if it will only get more and more dark. I was most interested in finding a way to stop the darkening process.. I´m more concerned with the finished and tooled seats I´m in the process of making. Marius -
After moving from the cold north of Norway to the Barcelona sun in Spain, I have experienced a little "problem". The veg tanned leather taking a lot more effect of the sun I´m used too. How do you guys prepare the leather after tooling it, so the sun won't continue to make it much darker, more fast than it needs too.. any tips for this? Adding a picture of a little test piece which shows the leather two days in the sun.. the light part was covered with a little box.

Thanks a lot for your feedback and tips, appreciate it! :-) The blade looks a little more shiny on the picture than it actually is, but.. I´ll try to sharpen it and see how it works! I have a 2000 diamond stone, dont you think that should be ok?

Oh am I lucky.. one of the most kind man I know, dropped by the shop today and asked if I wanted this Blanchard leather Plough. I really dig these old tools, and it´s in pretty good condition.. only need to sharpen the blade! Is there any special way to sharpen these blades? Does anyone know about how old this might be? It´s not for sale, but what might the value of this plough be? Anyone? :-)

Some Leather Work From Norway
276ccm replied to guni's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Fun to see other Norwegians here :-) -
Thanks a lot all! It´s not really a big secret.. I just thin the dye, and paint it with a brush in many layers.. it takes time, but I get what I want :-) I´m not familiar with other dye brands than a Danish brand called R.O.C.. but it works perfect! :-)

Thanks a lot! :-) I´m getting closer hehe I appreciate any info on leather stores and tanneries in Spain that might have veg tanned leather :-)

Thanks a lot mate! I really appreciate the info! :-) I think I understood the most of it hehe :-) I´m still thinking to buy the machine, and in case (as I don´t know anything about the motor) maybe buy a new motor.. but at the same time, maybe its better to wait for a more expensieve machine, and get exactly what I want and don't have to wait and fix things hehe Hopefully I´ll sell mine for about US$ 1000 and can spend the same amount on a more new machine.. hmm But thanks a lot!

I talked with the seller (which means my gf translated into Spanish).. the machine didn´t have a needle position, which is one of the things I absolutely want. If this is a Pfaff 335 clone (which it looks like) will it be difficult and or expensive to attache that now? Or will it be depending on what kind of motor which is on the machine today? Anyone? :-)

I was considering a Global machine some time back, and as far as I know, they are as good as any clones today.. Some times (I've heard) its the same factory and use same parts as the original too. I dont know this particular model, but I think in general they should be as good as any :-) http://www.globalsew.com/en/wf5555.htm

Constabulary, I´m about to move to Spain.. and I want it there, when I move. I´m going to sell my Durkopp Adler 291 here in Norway, as it would cost a lot to ship, and it´s a good opportunity to find a cylinder machine there, as I always wanted one and would be more suitable for my work.. :-)

Thanks for your reply "El Zipster" :-) It´s a start.. I´m a little sceptical oredering leather online.. I have done it one time from a so called serious dealer in Norway, and the piece I got was really cr.. so I had to get in the car and return it. I always like to feel the leather I buy. Now I have my local store here, and it´s really nice to go and pick the pieces.. but I´m about to move to Spain, so I really need to find a dealer as close to Barcelona or Igualada as possible. It´s about 30 min to an hour from where I´m moving, Sitges. I have heard different stories about leather from Tandy (no experience my self) and friends which have tested the Hermann Oak, says it´s "nothing" compared to what we get here, without knowing exactly which tannery they come from at the moment, so this is more difficult than I thought hehe I´ve heard Igualada is famous for their quality and many tanneries, but I haven't had any luck finding anyone that sells veg tanned leather.. yet. My gf have some family in Alicante, so we could always go there for a weekend and shop, but.. it´s nice to have a local place, if possible. I found a store in Barcelona, and I emailed them before I went there, and they said they could get anything i needed, so I went there, and they had more or less nothing, and still waiting after 3 - 4 months for getting back to me when they got it.. Thanks a lot again for your reply, its bookmarked, and if anyone else know other places too, it will be much appreciated :-)

Thanks again, I have sent him a message too.. He's a master at machines and he helped me out rebuilding an old singer 45K and helped me with my Durkopp Adler 291.. After Google a little too, I see this Goldex is more "popular" in India, Pakistan and in some Spanish speaking countries, but not much information I hnderstand. If it's a clone maybe I can take the chanse of original Pfaff parts would fit.. If I need some to put it back as a non folding machine. Maybe the engine is more weak if it's for this.. Hmm. The machine is sold in Spain so I asked my gf to help me call. Thanks for helping! :-)

Thanks a lot! I spent quite a lot of time with the dye, and I was happy as it turned out. I was originally a La Pera seat for a Harley FXR :-)
-
Thanks for your reply! :-) Yea I see it got this binding setup, but I guess it would be easy to set it back as an ordinary machine, dont you think? If the engine is ok, it´s a reasonable strong machine, isn´t it? I have also considered a more new version of the Pfaff 335, but it goes for 1300 Euros.. I can get it for 400 Euros, which is about US $ 500.. and I believe it´s a good price.
