  2. I am mixing up my first batch now. Do you all neutralize it after taking out of the roon mix? If so how. I believe backing soda will work but how do you apply it? I was think of a spray bottle? What works?
  3. When you put on your 50/50 mix is it hard in a bar or soft in a melted type form?
  4. Hi guys, I have read the edging post in the "how to section" and am stuck on the waxing. Basicly I got some bars of parafin wax and am not sure how to apply it. After you do glisirin soap and saddle soap steps how do you put the wax on? Do you just rub the bar on the edge then burnish on a wheel or put the wax on the wheel then burnish the edge, or do you melt the wax then put it on the edge then bunish. and lastely when do you put the edge kote on before or after waxing?
  5. Looks good to me. I have had alot of problems with black dye lasting so I am excited to try this. thanks Rob
  6. Tell you what I use. I use a paint stirring stick from home depot. get the extra large one. Its 1.5 inches wide and about the same thickness as a good gun belt, best part it is free.
  7. Ok thanks so much that makes alot of sense now. rob
  8. Ok good information. I am still alittle confused on where you put the leather washers. also you say you cut one side flat?? Arn't both sides flatt?? is there a web site with a pic I could go to??? thanks so much.
  9. Hi Twin Oaks, thats what i am talking about. A spacer under the belt loop. How do you work the spacer in with the sweat shield? What I mean is do you use a seperate collar around the mouth then an additional spacer under the belt loops or do you use just one really thick collar that works as a spacer. Does that make sense? Rob
  10. I am trying to build a appendix carry IRWB holster. From the few examples I have seen it liiks like the builders tend to build up the top portion of the holster under the belt loop. I think this is done to act as a wedge to push the grip snug into the body. Anyone with experience with this what are your thoughts? Any tricks or problems I should know about before I start to cut leather?
  11. How is the quality of their product. I have read that it has slipped of late?
  12. Hey guys, Does any one have an ideas on where to get a officer's model mold? I tried rings but they don't seems to have them???
  13. I am making avenger style holsters and have no problem with a straight drop. I would now like to make one with a 15 degree angle. I have a protractor but can't wrap my head around how to use it to measure out a 15 degree angle. Do I put the staight part on the rear belt loop and measure from their? Or on the front of the holster. ANy help would be greatly apperciated and since I am a visual learner pics would make you my hero!!!
  14. [very nice. mind if i ask what weight leather you use for the IWB?
  15. OK thats good information. Thanks so much Rob
  16. I am planning on triming my next holster project with some gator skin. My question is this, after you glue and sew the skin on to your leather, do you bevel it and then burnish it just like you would a piece of cow hide? I tride to edge a sample piece and it got a bevel but the edfer cut below the dye so that the gator skin is brown but the edges are nature. So do you just skip this step ?
  17. Hi guys, I have a friend who is sending me some alagator skin to try and amke a holster with gator trip. I do everything by hand and as I understand it you have to mount the gator to the leather with glue then stich as normal. with gator can I just cut a grove for my stich line as usual and can I then use a over stich wheel to mark the skin for dewing? Or is there some other way???
  18. [i only hand dye my stuff and so far have no problem cutting it with a razor knife. As to color check out this web site http://turtlefeathers.net/text/angelus/dye.html they sell angles dyes which is great and comes in alot of colors. I don't dip dye only because it seems like you would need alot of dye to do one holster so I can't help you there. also I find its much easier to mold leather before its dyed - JMO
  19. Hi guys, I am trying to maye an OWB Avenger style holster. I am having a hard time with belt loop placement. Obviously the angle that you cut your loops in respect to the holster will affect the angle that the hoster body can't. I first tried to make a 0 degree can't so I made the loops stright up and down. This resulted in a holster that had a rear ward can't. So My basic question is how to adjust the angle of can't by you placement of belt lopos. Should the top of the loop go be cut towards the front or rear of the holster and should the front and read loops be parrlell to each other?
  20. Twin Oaks when you say buffing out. I have been polishing with a shoe type brush. Is there a better way?
  21. Tell me guys, why use vingaroon instead of black dye? If its so hard to deal with is it better some how?
  22. King, I am applying the black with a wool applicator as well as the sealer. Two questions for you. Do you think dipping into the sealer is making a difference or can I still brush on the resolene stuff? Why do you cutt your resolene with water? I have been using angelus sealer straight from the bottle. Is this wrong? As to the vinagaroon stuff I have heard of it and most posts make it look very complicated to do. What is it anyway???
  23. I am having a problem with my dye wearing off the holsters I make. I am using good quality W and C leather and the dye is Anglus black with angleus sealer. This holster has only been worn for about a week every day 12 hours a day and its wearing off ? I usually use two coats of dye and two coats of sealer. The leather is dry over night before I dye. Can anyone help me ?
