hi guys, I like to make belt loops in two sizes 1.5" and 1.25". I use a snaps on them and am never sure how long to make them. Abviously I need to leave room for the snaps and attachment so I need to cut them longer then the belt width but I keep guessing on how long. any rules of thumb you guys use?

Help Me Build This Holster
rccolt45 replied to rccolt45's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Hi guys they both help alot. Texas - here is my question for you. I want to do somthing similiar which is what I came up with first but once you sew your clip leather to the body of the holster how do you secure the clip in the pocket you just sewed. You can't screw it in because you can't get behind it. If you atach you clip to your leather then sew it all together the clip is in the way when you try to finish the holster. So how did you do it? Looks like maybe you cut a trap door and then sewed it closed after you screwed it in?? thanks guys. -

Hi guys, I am fooling around with kydex belt clips for my next leather IWB project. I know I need molds to help form the kydex into a clip but have no clue what they are suppused to look like or how big they are supposed to be. I want to make a clip that will fit belts up to 1.5 in wide double think. Can any one help me out with how to make the molds and the best way and size to make the clips??? thanks in advance to anyone who takes pitty on a kydex virgin. OH also how is the best way to secure the clip to the leather holster body?

Sorry one more for you guys - how do you get your stich lines close but not too close? Its always a guess for me. I saw a prior post on here that talks about using a L ruler but can't make heads or tales out of it? Any advice? -

Great advice guys I will use it all in my next build. I do have one questions - I have read on here that know when the holster is dry enough to start moulding by when its cool to the touch and the leather has returned almost to its natural color. Here is my problem, I dye my holsters then build then mold. As a result I can't use color as an indication of when to mold. So what do I do? Obviously I am molding to soon - any advice??? -

Ok guys thanksfor the comments but of course I have questions: 1. When you say the edges need work - do you mean burnishing work so they are smoother? 2. When you say moulding when too wet, do you think I should be waiting longer for it to dry after I wet it? thanks again and keep-em comming. -
I have been making IWB holsters for Commanders for awhile now. Each one is better then the last. Here is the last one and it is the best so far - but I know with your help it can be better. Please review these pics and tear it up, tell me what I did wrong and how to fix it.

Hey guys, I picked up a old Chandler industrial machine this weekend. I will be using it to sew 5/6 or 6/7 oz leather for holsters. Which needle and thread should I use? I have never used a machine before and need all the help I can get.

A Couple Of Holsters
rccolt45 replied to Rhome's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Beautiful work Rhome, I was wondering about your belt loops. They are so evan and nice looking. Do you buy long stips pre cut to that width or do you cut them yourself? Everytime I try to make a IWB loop I always screw up the belts and they look like crap. Also what weight do you use? thanks Rob -
I'll take it. PM in bound - thanks so much.
