  10. lay out on hide is #1, hide size, with, length ,consider folds, edges, pattern ,scale direction up down left right, then work as leather, edges can be difficult as cut scales and fleshy folds require extra attention depending how well the hide was fleshed out before and during tanning, the underside may require evening and work good luck David
  11. moderators delete this or the other one if this is a better place for this Q or the supplier location not interested in who is their fav supplier but just leather info thanks David I've used W&C English bridle and have been very happy with what I've gotten standard grade I'm needing to order @ 8 hides 8-9 oz from WC and some hard goods from weaver and was wondering about the Herman Oak,English bridle "weaver sells", and how it compares to Wc English bridle as well as the Herman oak "BRIDLE leather" Primary use is belts and bags/cases from the lower half I have read the product description and it sounds similar BUT HAVE NOT had the leather in hand for the FEEL test Has ANY ONE used both and what differences, and or would you be happy using HO eb or WC eb the reason for the Q"SSS is I'm getting close to a time crunch and not sure if WC will have the hides I need to me in a timely manner or on their schedule not looking to buy imported tanned hides, and willing to spend extra for US tanned products any feed back on the product is help full , no need to compare shipping and customer issues as all have some and generally get dealt with, to someones satisfaction

  19. SS steel nor Aluminium absorb moisture, Al and SS/ friction WILL generate HEAT,, AL will heat/cool it quicker than SS steel, that said ,,,,, burnishing requires HEAT/FRICTION ,, not a lot hence the use of AL,over SS steel, ALUMINIUM is a clear choice, so a burnishing tool should generate the most heat at a friction rate.. .BUT..... wood is a better choice BUT durability/production rates made wood a ,,,,???,,, choice unless you have the ability to supply your own needs with wood and generate the tools at a sane $$$ so AL is a choice to allow consistent duplication of results/// less operator error for leather"""IMHO"""""" but not to throw a wing dinger in finishing edges is a art YOU fine tune based on what others do and what you can manage or what you know and have learned I have a enco lathe that is not a HF/cheap o and I know I DO NOT HAVE the skill to do what I want with it so thats my $0.02 db
