    Helmet

  4. This one came out too small; I sold it to a guy with a small head for $50: This one came out pretty good, and fit well, but it doesn't fit my persona (undead warrior): So I started to make a new faceplate for it, but this didn't quite work out: After a couple "Donnie Darko" comments, I shitcanned that one and started fresh. I think this one is what I was looking for:
  5. Pics are dead in this tutorial, Mike. Any chance of getting them replaced? I finally have a pot fulla beeswax in the shop and wanted to try this.
  6. Honestly, I'd suggest a 4-6 ounce garment leather for the "coat", and use cut up plates of pickle barrel or kydex for the inside coat of plates part. Super stiff and super light, and unseen, so who cares if it's plastic. I give a second vote for putting the plates inside as well. It's historically correct and a billion times more functional than having them outside, like Peter says.
  7. Ahh, pity I can't take any more vacation time this year, because I'd love to help - but I'm using up all my vacation already between Ragnarok XXV (on the same site as Pennsic, in June) and my firstborn's spawning.
  8. I don't understand what they're looking for: more vendors, or teachers for a class, or?....
  9. I do all of these things as well. I also use mine for grinding down the flesh side of leather that's too thick to attach some conchos.
  10. She's lucky I went along with this crazy plan at all. Not sure if it's "red", looking more "strawberry blond" the womenfolk all say. Thanks all.
  11. Ivan Joseph Haldenwang, 7 pounds 8 ounces, all parts intact. Mother and spawn are doing well.
  12. Just noticed this. Bruce, no need to buy a second Verizon account to share the connection from their wireless broadband. Check out the Cradlepoint devices. http://3gstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=137_186&products_id=961 $140 and it's a wireless router as well. You plug your USB air card into it, and it just works. If your other computers aren't wireless, no problem, it's got an ethernet jack in it and you can pick up a small switch for $20 on NewEgg and plug them all into it. 3GStore is excellent - if you live in an area with low cellular signal, they have a variety of antennas you can use with a wireless broadband device to boost reception dramatically.
  13. Ahh! Actually, in the photos, there's nothing holding it in - but a day later, I used some little flat-headed cobbler's nails to secure it. The bottom cap is a sole bend.
  14. Yes, it's got two snaps, one to keep it down and another to keep it up.
  15. Here's a recent shot of me at a Dagorhir demo in the armor so far: And an action shot! I really gotta get the shoulders made, and revisit the tassets/war skirt thingy, I'm not happy with that at all. Probably need to remake the facemask of the helmet too. My unit's an undead unit, so a skull mask would be a lot more appropriate.
  16. MissingLink, thanks for posting. I see you're here from the Armour Archive, where I occasionally lurk and read but am not registered at. They have anything to say about this topic over there? Eldorado, great info. What you've found pleases both of us. Right now, I'm still sticking by my assertion that leather armor was never used in the western world as a primary armor material in any regularity. As tournament armor/dress armor/with maille, sure. As "leather armor" in the sense we think of it as (and as often is worn for LARP/SCA) today - not so much.
