Buck Knife Sheath
tclaridge replied to tclaridge's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks- that sounds like it's worth a try! The only awl blade I have is a 1-3/4" harness blade from Springfield Leather-- do you use something similar? What do you recommend? -
Buck Knife Sheath
tclaridge replied to tclaridge's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you, I appreciate that! -
Here is my first attempt at a fixed-blade sheath, for my father-in-law's hunting knife. The sharp point had poked through his original Buck sheath, so I thought one with a full welt ought to hold up better. I don't normally drill my stitching holes, but needed to in this case as it was about 5/8" thick. Any tips on keeping the back side holes straight when drilling through this much leather? There is a reason I didn't include a photo of the back! Thanks, Tanner

Pint glass holster-- the process
tclaridge commented on tclaridge's gallery image in Gallery- Our Leatherwork
Thanks! No, the handle is just two layers of 8 oz leather folded over, glued, and then stitched. After wet molding around the glass and to create the handle shape I "crisped" it in a very low heat oven, which seems to give it some rigidity. Enough for its intended purpose, anyway! . Making the pattern took some time-- I used 1/8" foam to experiment quite a bit before it came out right. Merry Christmas! -

Howdy from Montana! I got hooked a few months ago when I had a pistol but no holster. I stumbled on a great free Glock 19 pattern from JLS leather, rounded up a few tools, and now I can't stop! I am so grateful for the friendly advice offered here. I have so much to learn, but this forum makes it easy to find help on any topic. Shortens the learning curve considerably! Looking forward to getting to know some of you better in the future. Holler if you're coming through Montana! I am interested in functional leather stuff-- holsters, sheaths, pint glass holsters, and would like to learn more about finishing techniques and tooling/carving, and possibly upholstery. Merry Christmas! Thanks, Tanner
