  1. No problem, Pete. I will PM the address info. Thanks, Ryan
  2. Hi Pete! The rollersnap has a loop that a strap goes through- it can then be sewn or left open ended and the strap fed through a slide. I have attached two pictures- they probably explain better than I do. You can see the rollers in the main body of the snap- the hasp can be secured between any two- so there are 6 positions of adjustment. Ryan
  3. Hi everyone- we had a post on here awhile back regarding our RollerSnaps- a closure system we were working on that features adjustablity and tenacious holding combined with incredible ease of use. We just wanted to update and let everyone know they are now available in the forum marketplace and we're offering a significant discount to members as a way of saying thanks for all of the feedback, support, and encouragement everyone here provided. I have attached a few picture to show off a production version customized and installed on an ID wallet. Best, Ryan
  4. Greetings! We have decided to officially kick off the RollerSnap Revolution by offering a significant discount to leatherworker.net members- our way of saying thanks for the feedback, encouragement, and support. Our normal price for a quantity of 5k runs around $2.25 per set. What we have done is allocate 5k sets for forum members so you can enjoy the same price- $2.25 per set. No minimum purchase. Even if you just want to purchase one set- same price- $2.25. One set = RollerSnap, hasp, and hasp washer. Color availability: Polished nickel set with Polished nickel RollerSnap and polished nickel hasp. Bi-tone set with brass/gold RollerSnap and polished nickel hasp. Bi-tone set with matte nickel RollerSnap and polished nickel hasp. The bi-tone sets look nice as all RollerSnaps have zinc and clear (silver) bottom plates and aluminum rollers. Blank top plates are available in 2024 aluminum and 260 cartridge brass with adhesive back. Cost is $0.75 per plate. We are currently working with an engraving/photo anodizing company to offer top plates with your artwork, logo, etc. Once the tooling is finished and proven we will update with details. Also remember that there is no actual need to use our top plates. You can make your own out of leather, wood, plastic, whatever floats your boat. Top plate cavity on this model is fairly shallow- about .020-.025 inches deep. I can provide exact dimensions in .pdf, .dxf, or .stl format if need them. Payment and shipping details: Payment option at this time is through PayPal. Per forum rules I can't post the email for PayPal here so PM with your order requirement and I will respond with an order confirmation, your total, and the email address for PayPal. Shipping will be via USPS flat rate envelope or box: $4.95 anywhere in the U.S. The flat rate box should be able to hold a few hundred sets if not more. We're usually pretty quick with shipping and will always let you know if for some reason there is a delay. If you live outside the U.S. and are interested let me know and I will get you a shipping quote. Best regards, Ryan Brown RollerSnap R&D
  5. Allen, I know exactly how you feel! I am still trying to find time to fit a servo motor to our sewing machine so I have some chance of controling it, rather than screaming in terror. This sight is a huge resource and the knowledge and craftsmanship of the people on here is just incredible. Enjoy, and if you ever get to the point you want some samples just drop a line. Have a great weekend, Ryan
  6. Thanks, David. We think that top cavity for customization is pretty much limitless as far as what you can do with it- we can provide metal plates such as brass, stainless, aluminum, engraved by a number of methods. Wood, leather, stone- all would work as well. We went this customizable route to maximize our tooling since it allows for large production volume while allowing an incredible variety of individual customization. We have several different sizes, materials and mounting methods in the developement pipeline. We're focused at the moment on getting out of the gate with our first product but once we do so you can expect more to follow soon thereafter. Best, Ryan
  7. Hi Allen! Production units should be available towards the end of this year or at the latest first thing next year. My fingers are crossed for November but that will be pushing it. In the meantime I am more than happy to send you some pre-production samples. Functionally perfect but a bit heavier and not as polished (literally and figuratively) aesthetic standpoint. If you're interested in samples drop me a PM with your mailing address. Best, Ryan AKA:Snap
  8. Hi Bree! Sent some samples out to you Tuesday. Please remember that the samples I have on hand to send out are "pre-production" and while they work perfectly, they are not perfect from an aesthetic standpoint. Functionally, they are great, and should provide an opportunity for you to see if they are suitable for the work you do. Production units recently approved look incredible and are a full 1/3 lighter in weight while maintaining the same great performance and ease of use. Thanks for your interest! Snap
  9. Hi everyone! Sorry to revive an old thread but... I am curious to see if anyone that I sent samples to has had a chance to use them and if so, what did you think? I love feedback! Good or bad, if you got, give it! On another note, we have received our latest batch of samples from our new manufacturer and I was blown away by how great they looked, performed, and how noticeable the weight reduction was. We approved a production run of 15,000 sets. RollerSnaps in polished nickel, matte nickel, and polished brass will be available first quarter 2009. Probably sooner but we're saying first quarter 2009 for some wiggle room. Looking forward to any and all feedback from those who have had a chance to put those samples to use! Best, Snap
  10. Hi Tom! The production versions are approx 1/3 lighter- it makes a big difference. As for the prongs- our research indicated a strong preference to prongs over screw type mounting. We have yet to have a failure of the prongs due to breakage and have literally hundreds of thousands of cycles on our test pieces. That being said, we are always looking for ways to improve and would like to hear your suggestions for an improved/preferred mounting method. Ryan

I ordered the servo yesterday! Thanks to everyone here for the suggestions- this board really rocks. RYan
  12. Samples are on the way for all who requested them! We (me and my co-workers) are interested in any and all feedback on these things regarding form, fit, function, pricing, etc. And we actually listen to what you have to say. On another note- I ordered a servo motor for my Juki yesterday! WOOHOO! I'm hoping it allows me to dial down the speed, and therefore the terror. Peace, Ryan
  13. Those are AWESOME. I really dig how clean that design is. Very nice!

I'm going to get that servo ordered next week and will be devoting at least a few hours a day to practice, practice, and more practice. It's hard to breath normal when shreaking in fear but I will do my best. Hopefully the servo will help with the speed thing. I think it will. Then I can get to it. I hope you're right and I can learn this stuff- I would LOVE the ability to get what is in my head...out.

Yep, it's somothing like that- only difference is that it had a circular bearing instead of a solid guide mounted to the table. I have a picture I took with my phone off of the website...but I hesitate to post since it's off another website! In the meantime I am looking at a servo motor and will probably ask you guys to give me your thoughts on the size for my machine before I purchase. I think the one I was lookin at was 3/4 hp? Around $125?
  16. To clear up some confusion- the samples (2 sets) mentioned in my last post are free of charge. If you want to check them out all I need is an address and I'll take care of the rest. Hey, that rhymes...
  17. Comparison of the pre-production model I refer to in my previous post and a raw casting of our final design of this version. I am willing and able to ship two sample sets of the pre-production version to anyone who is interested in seeing how these work in the real world. If interested PM your shipping address- no PO Boxes please as I prefer to ship UPS. I will try to get these out by the end of next week. Please keep in mind: While the samples function perfectly they are a bit hefty and not shaped as nicely as the production version (see pictures in this post). However, they should provide an excellent idea of what you can expect regarding function. Have a great weekend everyone! Ryan
  18. Thanks again for all of the interest! I am trying to get some more samples together to send out to those interested. To answer a few questions: - The die cast snaps will be offered with an empty top cavity and you will be able to customize that as you see fit- however you like. We only show the engraved plates on these as an example of what is possible. Leather looks really nice in there. - Pricing should be around $6.99 for singles. We will be offering price breaks for quantity purchases starting at a dozen. However, I don't want to discourage anyone who won't use that many, so we're trying to see what we can do for 6 piece orders as well. - I don't know the exact launch date but we're working hard at it. What we DON'T want to do is set a date and then fail to come through, or take orders before we have product in hand. - If there is enough interest, I am going to see about getting some of our pre production test product assembled and ready to go before the official launch. The pre-production snaps perform flawlessly but the finishes vary quite a bit in color and texture. The design of these is the same as the smaller snaps in the pictures. They differ from the production model in that they are a bit more square edged and heavier (1.1 oz if I remember correctly). I will try to post a picture tonight of the production sample I have which will show the final shape and the empty cavity. Thank you so much for the interest and all of the kind replies and messages! I will try my hardest to get some samples into the hands of those interested within a few weeks! And keep asking questions! I have not had much time to get on here this week but that I will always answer as soon as I can. Best, Ryan

Thanks for all of the great tips. I am looking at the servo motors and they seem like a really great idea what with the speed control knob. And compared to servos for our CNC mill the price seems reasonable. Hilly- does the duct tape stand up enough off of the surface for the leather- or do you use that as a visual aid only? The bearing guide I am looking for allows you to press the edge against it and roll the piece along. In all honesty, I should probably learn to sew properly without help, and then when that is mastered go ahead and look for mechanical aids. That being said, I will probably keep looking for any and all help I can get.
  20. Hi everyone! Ok, so I am really starting to get the leather working bug and even though I should be focused on my main gig, I figure posting questions will allow me to scratch the itch a little bit and get ready for when I have the time! First question- I understand that the feet on machines are changeable but are they machine/maker specific? The only way I will ever be able to sew an edge straight is with a helluva guide. I saw one on Vaja cases website once- looked like a cartridge bearing off to the left side of what looked like a sewing foot with only one "fork" on the right side of the needle. I'm guessing the work would roll freely along the bearing while still allowing for tight turns and maintaining a really nice straight edge. Does this make any sense and if so can anyone point me in the right direction? I tried to sew a straight line the first time I sat down at my machine and I think I was concentrating pretty hard but since I was screaming at the top of my lungs in terror at the speed of the thing it was hard to tell...all I know is that it was NOT straight. Thanks! Snap
  21. If I knew I would answer! I'm surprised you haven't had a response yet...
  22. Yes. The patent has already been issued.
  23. Thanks for the positive feedback- I should have some more info later this week. And to whoever (whomever?) fixed the pictures- thank you!
