  1. Sweet, this is the first floral pattern I think I have ever done, just seen so much I figured I have allot to compare to, plus yeah videos on YouTube have allot of floral follow along as you stated , I do plan to get a steeper beveler for sure.. Im so bad with the swivel knife too lol.. just going to keep practicing I suppose
  2. Okay, So i have very limited tooling experience and I want to change that, SO I'm working on this little design I found on google, I am hoping someone can give me some feed back on things to do and change before its done, just so I can compare the differences, I am working on some pretty thin leather, maybe 3-4 oz., all I have at the moment that's not pre finished. Anyways I'm sure that I am doing allot wrong, but the biggest issue I seem to be having is with the stems/vines, Cant seem to make them look like they are overlapping, really that seems to be the theme for the entire piece, As far as tools go I am quickly finding I need more Pics of the primary tools that I have, as I dont know what they are called. The far right tool is pretty much the only beveller I have, and the rest I just kinda been using at random to get where I am now. Thanks for any help!
  3. I know this is an older post but how in the world do you get the leather to form like that? I'm Kinda new lol.
  4. Will do! Just wishing I had a machine currently as I started a test holster today out of water some water buffalo and holy crap I cant get through it to stitch it lol
  5. That thing is rad! I would love to see how you did the skulls and lights!
  6. Yes sir, I actually didn't realize they made tables that had more table to the left, until just a little bit ago reading some threads someone posted I seen one, and yes takes up allot of room, so yes sir it is pedestal style.
  7. Ok, as far as the thread I don't want skinny thread, so not being able to use it isn't really an issue with me If I'm understanding you correctly. I do have a plan to do some lined bags eventually and may need thinner thread at that time, but its not on the top of my list right now.
  8. Lol that my exact state of mind is Im sure I can make something better for a flat bed attachment, then again I always feel like I can make things and just deal with what I got lol. This particular machine comes with Complete table with casters, SmartServo-NP motor, speed reducer,TS-28 LED lamp, TLG laser guide, swing down roller guide, flatbed table attachment, 3 pkgs of Organ diamond point needles,10 bobbins, thread lube pot, left toe foot, double toe foot, center foot, 1 lb. of thread, oiler, instruction manual, and repair tools. That was copied btw lol, to lazy to type it all
  9. I agree with your statement about the narrow plate, and that is something that I have had ben debating for some time, is do I get a flatbed machine or the cylinder arm, I just feel as I have watched and read that the cylinder arm is more capable of the items I wish to do, again no experience with that, I was really looking ant the flat bed attachment and really it does n not seem to be the best thing in the world as you still have a good amount of gap to contend with, vs a true flatbed machine. I also don't really have the room for two machines right now, As I'm kind of turning a single car garage into my leather shop. With a 4x8 bench and the sewing machine and other tools and leather rack I don't want it to get to cramped, lol as is inevitable. And I have seen the cowboy one that looks identical to this one. I was actually going to have my wife pick one up today, the cowboy however the Tandy she was by just sold the last one they had, Sooo, prob going to have to order something.
  10. For sure nice machine, I like the extra depth of the arm on the 5100, as its 16.5, again don't know if ill ever need that space but who knows lol. Thanks for the reply!
  11. Hello, I am looking to get my first machine, I have use a few in the past, My brother is an upholsterer and I have used his in the past so I understand how it works and all that, However I am not experienced enough to know exactly what I will need, I have about 5k budget for a machine and a few other items I would like to get to make my leather shop more productive and just a better place to work, Right now I work off about a 4 foot by 2 foot counter, not very great let me tell you, I plan to build a 4x8 work bench with a full cutting mat and drawers and things under it, (I currently build cabinets and furniture). Anyways the machine that I am looking at currently is https://www.techsew.com/us/techsew-5100-se-heavy-leather-stitcher-special-edition.html. If you don't want to click the link its a techsew 5100. Talking with my brother about machines he suggest that techsew is a good brand, However he does not do much leather if at all. With that said I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on why that would or would not be a good machine, Im sure its overkill for me just starting out but I'm a believer in buy once cry once, or more your only as good as your tools. I do not want to be held back by anything the machine cant do kind of thing. I also would like to know more about any special accessories that you would suggest, Like pressor feet, lights, rollers, anything like that, Also threads and needles, As I have always hand stitched my leather I pretty much have no idea what thread I would want As I purchased spools of waxed thread years ago and have just used that and don't have the first clue as to the size it is. As for what I plan to make that remains to be seen, I want to be able to make anything as my skills progress. I will say to start the projects I have in mind besides the normal wallets would be gun belts/holsters, bags/satchels/, Belts, straps for guns and guitars and some horse tack. Eventually want to make boots and some day want to make a pair of dress shoes, I understand that takes allot of other tools to do so that's why I say some day. Any way sorry for the wall of text I am looking to purchase in the next few days, Any ways cheers!
  12. Thanks you sir, Really trying to get better at edges, wanting to try the edge paint but have no idea how well it holds up.
  13. Oh wow yeah that's impressive. just curious on the time that little box took to cut?
  14. Oh dang, lol yeah now thats a laser hahah. you only use it for leather?
  15. Oh for sure after I bought this one and kind of learned the software and things, I use Lightburn I decided someday I will have to invest in a larger and more able laser, This one does really well for the applications I needed it for, as I would literally just set it on a wood panel I needed engraved, again just my logo, and let it rip, as Most of my wood business is cabinets and larger panels I needed something that was easy to move and wasn't limited on the size, plus cheap, I got it on a deal for 250 at the time. That 5 0z vegtan cut extremely nice actually with once pass at 1000 @ 95. Not saying this laser is the best but I also cut through 1/4 inch maple with 4 passes just to see what it could do, charring was kind of rough though lol. IF you don't mind me asking what laser are you using?
  16. Its just the sculprun pro 6, I bought it on a whim for lasering my logo in my wood projects, and then tore my shop apart to redo the inside lol, so its now in my little leather "shop". I ran it at 1000 speed, and 95 power, its 60w according to amazon. Really it hasn't been bad , It cut through that vegtan with one pass just didnt like this stuff as much https://www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/item-detail/13504-35-12-232/premium-chrome-pull-up-leather/pr_58008. Im still trying to find the perfect leather to work with so bought that just to try it.
  17. Thank you sir, I do appreciate it greatly!
  18. The laser is becoming super handy, however my laser didn't want to cut through that leather, I'm sure it would have with another pass or two so I just used it as an outline and finished with a blade, However some veg tan that I used it on cut really well, think it was 5 oz, the smell is horrid lol, so I do it in another part of the shop now
  19. For sure it is a bit bulky but honestly not as bad as I thought it would, be, granted I only cary 4 total cards and some cash most the time. I am pretty limited on leather at the moment so I did get thicker leather hoping to skive it down, but got lazy and didn't do it, on that particular wallet the v cut would not work as it really only has the two spots for cards and then the inside pockets for cash or whatever, I do appreciate the advise. I made 3 more for gifts or to sell so we will see lol. Have not stitched them yet so Ill post pics when I am finished on them. Live in southwest kansas, About 3 hours from any decent city that would hold anything like that, not much time to get out these days. And I didn't even see the sponsors on top so thank you for pointing that out.
  20. Been Gone for a while as I have been busy trying to get my little business going, doing cabinets and furniture/ wood working, been going ok, Been wanting to get back into leather and so just made a quick wallet today, Design I believe From corter leather/ weaver, Cant remember as its been a while since I got it. Any way going to go ahead and build a leather shop after I get my wood shop refinished and hope to be doig more. For now here is my little wallet. Need to take better pics to sorry.
  21. Hey everyone, I have been absent of late, as I have been focusing my small business on my wood working, however I plan to build a decent little leather shop after I get my wood shop finished ( drywall and new lights and power) anyways I want to delve into leather as I truly enjoy it and I have allot to learn, when I started I purchased a cheap chinese tool set and honestly been rolling with it ever since, I do want/ need to upgrade my tools and shop if I ever want to produce anything worth selling, which is a goal of mine, So a few questions, What do you all recommend, as far as tools go, I will eventually get a sewing machine, have not decided on which yet, but leaning towards a long arm, however my edge bevellers and skiving knives and hole punches... basically all the hand tools needed, I need to get better versions of, I am ok on tooling, as I did buy a decent set of them just need to get better with. I'm looking for brands and sizes, I get that I can just purchase every size of punches and bevellers and such and will eventually but for now Just looking for basic recommendations, on what you all would go with, call it a 1000 dollar budget on hand tools alone, I don't know if that enough or not but that's what I'm willing to do for now, as I still need to get machines, sewing, skiving, presses things of that sort. I have been doing leather for a hobby of and on for a few years but I would like to add it to my line up in my small business. Also would like to know thoughts on preferred leathers to use, and where to buy. Any ways thanks for the read and here is my little wallet I made today using a laser to outline my cuts, lol, I say outline cause I do not know what I'm doing with the laser on leather, I have only used it to engrave wood so far.
  22. Hey everyone, Was wondering if anyone has any good sources for templates, Just in general, I know I can purchase templates and do often, But I am wondering if anyone has a hidden place that compiles templates that can be printed, or in my case lasered out, I am playing with a laser right now and learning but for practice would like files that might be able to just plug and play. Let me know, I am also interested in others techniques of creating patterns and such for various items, When I first started I really enjoyed the process of creating templates but I honestly hate it now, as its just not as fun, I get that its part of it for sure. But I like the community of thingiverse... if you haven't been just google it, its a 3d printing site that people just upload random things, Im hoping to find something like that, any ways all help always appreciated.
  23. That hardware is super cool glad you could bring it new life again! Thanks for sharing.
