Wow, Brad! Nice score and I'm sure you'll make an excellent wallet for your cousin. BTW, what is the tool in the top picture, upper row center?
Yes it was a nice score!! It is a four whole punch with a cap on it.

That is one sweet setup all the way around, the leather work and the knife and hatchet. Awesome work!

So my cousin mentioned her husband used to do leather work, but gave it up for other hobbies. So I asked if he still had the tools and would be willing to part with them. She got back to me and said you pay the shipping and they are yours, but he wants you to make him a wallet. Below are a couple pics of what I got, which included 37 stamp tools, they are mostly craft tools but are the older, better craft tools not the new crap ones. The funny part is there were only a few that I already had. There was also a whole bunch of tandy patterns (the ones on the big legal size paper) some of them dating back to the early 80's. I got several hundred dollars worth of stuff for less than $30 dollars. I am very grateful to both of them and he will get the nicest wallet I have ever made!!! Things like this dont happen to me often so I just had to share with someone who would appreciate!

Hello Everyone,
I am a new member and this is my first posting on the forum. I have been doing leathercraft for many years. Most all of my projects have been for gifts to family and friends. Looking at all the incredible work and the entusiasm on the forum has been very inspiring. The Tote Bag posted was a gift to my wife for Christmas. The carving on the front of the bag is a slightly modified James Jackson design I first saw in the Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal a few years ago. The carving on the back is a modified Chester Hape design. I look forward to posting more when I can. Thank you for your comments.
Happy Tooling,
Pucci
Welcome to the Forums! That is some nice work!! Did you line the tote??

Here is the tutorial Tom Swede did on the subject. Thanks Tom!!

It looks like they block dyed it. There is already a great tutorial on here, but it's late and I've forgotten who made it . Just search the forum for "block dye" and you'll probably find it. Basically, you carve and tool, and then you wipe dye on with something like a firm square of cloth so the dye doesn't run, and it only gets on the surface that way.

Thanks I will take a look, I tried searching on here but obviously wasn't using the right search terms.

Do you think the person used a resist or painted around the areas they didn't want dyed or a combination of the 2? I really like this look and would like to attempt it.

That is awesome as always David, outstanding job!!
-
well there you go, lol.

Maybe it was cut like lace and then stretched straight, or there are some really big cows some where...
