  1. Does anyone have a shoulder holster pattern? I have a customer who wants a shoulder holster made. To make it more interesting I have never made one and the customer weighs about 500 pounds so any pattern I get will still have to be modified.. They dont make shoulder holsters this big or not that the customer can find.

    Any help would be appreciated!!

  2. So I finally heard back from the guy and all he wants is a 72" strip of 2" wide leather dyed black with the name of his band tooled on it. No lining, padding, etc. I decided to charge $95 since it's such a simple piece (and because I've never made one before, it gets a "learning discount"). There's also a good chance of repeat business w/ the guy and his bandmates.

That sounds like a good price!

Didn't mean to hijack your thread, I just figured posting what I had done and getting everyones opinion on what it was worth would be of help to you!!

Make sure you post pictures of it when your done!!

As a suggestion, if you don't have a pattern, I went to a music store and got a cheap leather strap from fender for under $20 and used it as a starting pattern.

  3. Brad,

I don't know how much time you have in this strap, but it is very clean and crisp. The barbed wire border is well done, the custom tooled letters are well done. Your stitching looks very good. You said it was lined. If I were you I wouldn't accept a penny less than $300 for that strap. It's important to remember....you cannot compete with production products. What you have created is a CUSTOM made product made out of superior materials and to the exact requirements of the customer (even if he didn't have any, LOL!). Good job....demand more!

    Hope this helps,

    Bobby

Wow, thanks for the compliment and the info! I am always way to critical of my work, which makes pricing difficult...

  4. Brad,

If you get the Sailrite or similar clone for leather, you will definately need their Monster Wheel for leather. I have the Consew clone with the monster wheel and it is satisfactory starter machine (with correct needles and feet).

Hmm I wonder if they have one for the mercury M111, thanks for the tip! FYI.. I know nothing about sewing machines if you had not guessed... lol

  5. Thanks Ryan! After poking around and looking at pictures of other machines that is what I was thinking as well. There is another company called sailrite that makes a singer 111 knock off that looks similar and has a video, I am hoping the Merc does as well. If it does then we got an awesome deal!

The sailrite looks like a good deal at 699.00

Here is the page with the video:

At the least I have to good industrial sewing tables! :-)

    Hello:

The trademark of "Mercury" was owned by a parent compnay named WMC Corporation. The bad news is, the went out of business about 8 years ago or so.

However, the machine you have is most like a walking foot machine based on the old Singer 111 design. You can look up on the internet what this machine looks like.

If it does not look very similar to the Singer, then look up a photo of the Tacsew T-111. This machine is a modern day knockoff of the old Singer 111.

Parts are still available for both machines. They are quite common.

Hope this is of some help to you.

    Kindest Regards,

  6. Well my wife bouthgt 2 sewing machines for $100 each. one was the Consew 817 (which is a hemmer) and the other is Mercury M-111.

I am most interested in the M-111 but can not find any information on that model, but it is an industrial machine.

Does anyone know where I maybe able to find information on the Mercury M-111?

  7. Does anyone know about a Consew 817?

I have the opportunity to get one in very good shape for $100 with table. Is that a good deal? Will it sew leather, if so how thick? Any information would be great I dont want to pass up a good deal but I dont have alot of extra money laying around at the moment either.

    Thanks In Advance!
