yeah really thick that's for sure. I got a half a belly for a really good price, ended up having to drill the holes for stitching as the stitching punch wouldn't go through all the way and kept stretching the leather too much. But I still like the way it came out. It's definitely going to last that's for sure.

Nice work, Get on ebay, there are some cheap tools on there. I have bought the cheap 20 peice stamp set, and I am quite happy with the results and how well they work. I will eventually upgrade my tool set once more orders come through.

Here is my second official belt and my first official sale. It is also my first time I have attempted wet forming. I used 4mm for the belt and pouch (not easy to wet form 4mm leather so I learnt, think I will stick with 3mm next time). I used piece of 2mm black VT craft piece for the belt sleeve. Forgot to get pics of the pouch on the belt before I sent the package away to it's hopefully happy new owner. I finally got my edge beveller, and have to say, makes life easier to burnish the edges. Im really happy with how this belt and pouch have turned out, I just hope the measurements are correct for the Leatherman Pouch. Here is a few build pics of the pouch and the finished pouch and belt. I would love to have some feedback and hear peoples thoughts on how I can improve for next time. Thanks.

Would love to, but only there over night to pick up a car and drive back the next day Also just realised it's 3hrs from where we are going

Thanks Chain, That is exactly what i am after Nice, Cant wait to get down there. I ended up getting what I needed from Packer today. The length I got cut was about 2.2mt so happy with that. Will start on the belt tomorrow and see how I go. Thanks for looking around for me. Will have to stop in when I get back from Victoria.

It's Veg Tanned bridle (what the receipt says), Whats the easiest way to tell Chrome Tan over Veg Tanned? I have some scrap leather that they said was Veg Tanned but is really hard, and doesn't soften with water very well (seems to bead off rather than soak in). and doesn't tool well either. I have never worked with Chrome Tanned before so would be great to find out
-
Nice Belt. Yeah I will be tooling a design, so Chrome Tanned is probably not going to be a good leather to use. I used Packer Leather's 10oz (4mm) Bridle leather for my belt and it has come out nice I think.

Would also love to know their belt blank lengths as well if possible thanks. The belt I need to make is for a 53" belt size.

Yeah I would love to get down there as I have a belt order I have to fill by early next week and send up to NQ. I'm not a big fan of the range at Packers, So yeah would be great if you could let me know what sort range of buckles etc, they have, as Packer Leather only have about 4-5 types of 35 - 40mm buckles.

Im just starting out again, but would love to meet up one day and pick your brains on belt making etc. I'm think that is the area I want to get into. I was going to head down to East Coast Leather some time in the next week or two and have a look at what they have, It has to be more than what Packers has. Should have a Brisbane and surrounds meet up one day, I would love to get with like minded people that can show me the finer detail stuff that I seem to be having issues with (I will blame my tools for the time being). Just got my first order for a 35mm 10oz belt with knife pouch, so will be interesting to see how it comes out. And its the sort of order that may have repeat work coming from it.

Just wondering where people put their makers mark on a belt? This is where I have put my mark on my own belt, but wondering if there is a better place for it?

Belt I made for myself

Thanks all. Finding I really need to cut about 1.5" off the end as it's too long. I like to be hard on myself, it's the only way to motivate myself to be better at what I am doing lol. Thanks. I love the feel of it, wears nicely, a little heavier than I am used to, but love showing it off. But still not happy with the corners on the stitching, as the punch slipped on me. Think I will stick with the 3 tooth punch not the 4 tooth, as the 3 is a bit sharper on the points. -
Sorry for the poor quality (bad phone, will get better later), Finished a belt for myself today. 10oz (4mmx38mm) Full Grain Pre-cut and dyed Black. Took about 2.5hrs total to make including all the tooling. I know my stitching isn't perfect. (got to work on getting my corners square). But I'm still happy with it. I have left the edges square as I like the look of it, but rubbed down with Pears Soap, and leather conditioner applied over the top. Any advice would be great for future reference, http://s1129.photobucket.com/user/dee_jay_8210/library/Leather Work/Belts?sort=3&page=1 Cheers Damien

WOW, I cant wait till I can proudly show off my work and hope it to be as good as yours. Well done, -
Hey Wedgetail, Welcome aboard. You have some nice awesome work there. I'm also a Brisbane based (Moreton Bay Region), Just started back after a 16yr break. Found my stitching skills not as good as they used to be that's for sure. Still waiting on the last of my tools to arrive from Darwin so I can start putting some of my own pics up.

All I can say is WOW. I can only hope to get as good as you. Just waiting for my tools to arrive so I can start practising

Im pretty sure it is rolled veg tanned leather, but no direct info on it. Might have to stop back into the shop and find out on Monday.

Hey all, Purchased a belt blank that is pre coloured to a whisky coloring, I have read that they are not the best for tooling designs into. The belt blank is from the same colour as the pic below and is 3.5mm (9oz) thick, by 32mm wide I am making the belt for my mum as my first project after not touching leather for about 16yrs. I used to use veg tanned leather back in the days which I know was good for tooling into, just not to certain on whether this leather will be good or not. Also what would be the best product to seal the leather, I am considering using a light antique finish over the top before sealing once finished as well. Any advice will be greatly appreciated Cheers Damien
