  1. I can say that mine are holding up really well against a dog the pulls like a freight train. and not even budged the stitching or rivets
  2. I stitch across the belt infront and behind the keeper, works good, but some dont seem to like stitching across the belt. but rivets either side and stick along the belt up to the keeper either side is the other way I have done it.
  3. Crispin Leather at Wooloowin have a great range of buckles as well (Largest range in QLD or Australia, cant remember which one it is). Really nice people to deal with. Not too much in leather wise but they can order anything in, but heaps of precut belt lengths and heaps of tools. Spent another $45 on tools today. Only open to the public on Wednesdays (full day) and Thursdays (half a day).
  4. I have some good leather conditioner (Oakwood Brand) that has Lanolin, Beeswax, Emu Oil, Tea Tree and Eucalyptus Oil in it. I gave it about 3 coats rubbed into the stitching and collar and also hit it with a hair dryer between each coats, The gave it another coat and left it out in the sun to dry naturally. They live on a Catamaran so needed to be really water proof lol.
  5. WOW that forming is perfect. What weight leather do you use to get it that nice? I have been wanting to try my hand at wet forming more knife pouches, but cant get my lines that clean. This was my first attempt at wet forming 10-11oz football leather.
  6. Very nice dress belts. Simple and efficient. Also wondering if you stitch or rivet your buckles? Would love to see more of your work.
  7. WIKI: Bush dance is a style of dance from Australia, particularly where the music is provided by a bush band. The dances are mainly based on the traditional folk dances of the UK, Ireland and central Europe. I see you are from Texas, so similar to Texan Line Dancing, but usually in partners or large circular groups Have a look on youtube there are a few vids, quite amusing as its mostly kids tripping over each other lol
  8. Welcome. I'm also recently new as well. There is never a dumb question in any industry. Everyone has to start somewhere, and there is so many different areas to specialise in Leather Work. As a Teacher/Administrator, you would know that life is about asking questions, So ask any dumb question you want. There will always be someone else that may need to know the same answer (probably me ) Good luck with your new adventure.
  9. I've had a look at your belts, makes mine look like they were made by my daughter lol. would love to make some more kids belts. I think I had more fun making them then adult belts.
  10. Thanks Rick. Yep she loved it, She can't wait to show it off at school. I will post a pic of her wearing it tonight in her bush dance clothes.
  11. Just finished making this belt for my very soon to be 8yr old daughters birthday (turns 8 on Monday). Using 7-8oz full grain, 25mm wide tapered to 20mm for the buckle. Coloured using 1 coat of Violet Cobblestone Leather Pigment lightly rubbed over the surface. then sealed with 2 coat of sealer and conditioned. The reason why I only used 1 coat of pigment was to give it the used look. My Partner done the design on the belt which came out really good. I am really happy with the way this one has turned out. . She doesnt know I have made it for her yet, so hopefully my daughter will love it. She will get to try it out and show it off at her schools bush dance tomorrow, so hoping to get a few more orders out of it. Sorry about the poor pics. It is near 12:45am here in Brisbane Australia.
  12. The dog I have made it for is known to kill collars lol, even broken heavy chains before, so they wanted extra support for the d-ring. Will see how it fairs up . Thanks
  13. Made this for a mates very large Pitbull. 10-11oz Full Grain. Ox Blood Dye. Not too happy with my punch for the holes, needs a good sharpen (any ideas on how to do this). For my 4th project, im getting better. The dog pulls like a freight train, so made a separate D-Ring section all hand stitched and riveted up top of the collar using a 5mm welded d-ring. hopefully this will last them longer than the store bought one.
  14. RIP to those lost. Great stamp, you should be proud of that one.
  15. So making a dog collar last night, I learnt five things while using dyes..... 1. Wear gloves 2. Remember to put lid back on bottle 3. Ox Blood dye looks good on our polished wood table, if only it was the whole table 4. Should have worn gloves while cleaning it up 5. My partner is not happy, but likes the colour lol
  16. Yeah I am going to keep them. I dont thin k I would use them for anything unless someone wanted an angel for something particular (you never know). As said my daughter loves using them, and if I can encourage her to enjoy leather work, we will have a new saddler on hand when she is older
  17. Yeah didn't think they would be worth much. Just cant believe how anyone would want to spend that much on a stamp. I got them more so for my daughter to use as she likes playing with my scrap leather. I only paid about $6.00 each so cant complain.
  18. Just wondering if these two stamps are as rare as Ebay says they are? I have both I picked up brand new for a really good price. But I wouldn't really use them for anything in my area of leather work, so I would be consider selling them off again. Just not sure on whether the ebay price is worth what they are really valued at? I just seen the 8535 go for $159USD on ebay. Craftool Co. USA ©1997 - 8534 - Angel with helping hands (Archangel Michael Possibly) Craftool Co. USA ©1997 - 8535 - Angel Any advice would be great thanks.
