Who's making quality mauls these days?
SouthernCross replied to SouthernCross's topic in Leather Tools
Chas, what weight do you prefer for stamping? -
I see Tandy has a neat looking stainless steel folder that looks pretty swift too. https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/craftool-pro-folder-creaser-stainless-steel

Yes, 20-24 oz., as specified in my original post. Ar least, that's what I think I want, as 80% of my tooling is stamping basketweave and geometrics. -

What's the best way to find out who on this forum makes them? -
Yessir, it's held up just fine. I've beat on everything in my garage with it...hard! - truck ball joints, motorcycle, you name it. It's probably 7 or 8 yrs old.

Thank you, sir.

I'm looking for an approx. 20-24 oz. tapered maul for mostly basket/geometric stamping. Who are some of the currently available go-to vendors?
-
Boriqua, are you still satsfied with your maul? What is the seller's name?

I do an awful lot of my work with a $5 plastic dead-blow hammer that I got from Harbor Freight. The make two different weights, if I recall correctly. If I could only pick one hammer, it would be the one I'd choose.

Help me pick a couple of guns
SouthernCross replied to SouthernCross's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I'm a big fan of J-frames, and revolvers in general, so that's certainly one market I plan to target. -
What's your favorite bone folder? I use a piece of deer antler, most of the time.

As I'm learning to make holsters, I figured I'd pick up a couple of blue guns and begin making up different colors and styles for each of them and maybe market them via Facebook and my friends. What are 2 or 3 must-have guns? I eventually want to move into the higher end stuff with interesting tooling and maybe exotic skins, so I don't believe a Kel-Tec PF9 would be on my list. I currently own or have access to: Beretta 92FS, S&W 2" and 3" revolvers, Ruger Single Six, and Sig P232. Any suggestions for others?

Well those sure look nice. Thanks for the link.

Come on, guys - any input?

Oil or not?
SouthernCross replied to SouthernCross's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks, Lobo. -
I've seen several tutorials in which folks oil their holsters before final finish. Others don't oil and go straight to final finish. Is there any particular reasons to do this or not?

Can someone tell me, specifically please, what kind of screws I need to get in order to fasten the belt straps to an OWB holster? I think they're called Chicago screws, but I have no idea if those are indeed what I need nor do I know what size and length and where to get them from. Thanks in advance.
