so im working on the timing for my juki 5550. im having some troubles with it... i watched a great video that explained everything.. I lined up the notch on the needle bar (the bottom line) so its flush with the cover part, right when the hook is about halfway past the needle.. i adjusted the distance from the hook to the needle so the needle is right next to the hook but not touching.. very very close. the machine runs a few stiches but then its skips a bit... also the thread shreds... any ideas?

so when i took the throat plate off of the machine, i spun the wheel to make the needle go up and down.. i noticed that the needle was rubbing up against the hook. is it supposed to do this? is that normal? if not, how would i adjust that? -
as long as its not mold, im not too worried about it.. some of it stuck, but im not sure if that is were the marks were from... have you had anything like this?

so i have piles of chrome tanned leather in my garage... in the past, i had them in my basement and i got some mold so i threw a bunch away.. now that i moved and they are in the garage.. i had some pieces that kinda stuck together cause it gets hot down here. now, im not sure if the color transfered off one onto the other? or if its just mold again? or its just dirt or grimey? i hope it just transfered color, but not sure... when unfolded the leather, it stuck within itsself and i had to somewhat peel it off of itsself, nothing major.. thoughts? ill try to get some pics

sewing machine cuts thread when stitching (juki 5550)
beltbuckles replied to beltbuckles's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
thank you very much.. ill feel around for anything that could be cutting it. i think the timing is okay because it sew fine until it cuts... i think that the hook may be trying to wrap around it... how do i fix that? -
so i posted about this problem in the past.. when i sew, the thread gets chewed up and then finally breaks... i believe i tried... -switching needles -making sure the string is not super high tension being feed from spool -sanding stuff inside the machine is there something im missing? i do have a high tech juki 5550 that has some automatic features, (that are not currently working) like a thread cutter, but i think i disables it... could it be rubbing against that? i check when i took the throat plate off and it didnt look like it was... it could be the bobbin but i think i switched that too.. anyway thicker string helps but i still does it...

does it melt all the threads together in a ball as to not come unraveled?
-
thank you.. i have a lighter, so i guess can continue to do that...
-
how much stuff is left for sale?
-
thank you, i have a wood carving thing (i think) that may do a similar work. wow, so it can happen. thank you for your response thank you... i think the cigar lighter is similiar effect to the thread zapper mentioned above sounds like a potentially scary situation
-
so i have seen people burn the thread of the ends to melt it... my question is, if it is by an area that is glued into place via contact cement (weldwood) . would this cause some potential danger or harm? i don't want to burst into flames so.. do you guys burn the ends or just rethread into a previously sewn area?
