  1. i have a juki 5550n-7 and it had some thread from the previous owner.. it seems to be really old thread and its super fragile and small.. the type for a home machine to use.. it breaks really easily.. so i loaded it up with some upholstery coats and clark thread nylon extra strong.. i couldn't find the size of the tread so i call the company but they didnt respond yet.. anyway it doesn't seem to be too big.. maybe size 69 or bigger?? anyway.. i loaded up the bobbin and the machine but the needle would not pick up the tread... hmmmmm i put the other small thread in and it worked okay.. again the "coats and clark" thread really isn't that big.. any ideas.. (here is a link to the type of thread for a reference) https://www.amazon.com/COATS-Strong-Upholstery-Thread-150-Yard/dp/B004BP43JE
  2. thank you for your help.. im searching google and called a store by me.. no luck finding one that size.. i think i need the second one . i have a machine 6/21 bs. can you recommend a website to get these needles>? i guess just post a link... -thanks again for your help
  3. hey, thankyou so much for the pic...
  4. it is a pfaff 138-6/21-bs then under that 108486 i used needles organ needles 438-265-dp438 110/18 i also bought a foot for the machine but it didn't fit on well.... i looks like it should but when i tightened it.. it would turn crooked and and there was a gap between the dogfeed and the bottom of the foot
  5. so i got a pfaff 138. i just got the head for a reasonable price.. it was missing a foot and needle plate, ect.. anyway, i got some needles for it and when put one in and turn the wheel, i watched the need go down and it bends.... something with the hook is pushing the needle to the side.. is this an easy fix? is it just the timing?
  6. sooo............i got a few of them... "bulk deal" and i did get the 138 (along with a 335 and 2 adler 69's... some parts are missing so now i am hunting them down.. the machine seems to be okay.. i am now ordering a foot and a needle set for the machine (138) if it runs smooth, (or when i guess i should say), ill get a table and motor for it.. THANKYOU for your advice and kindness.. really quick, .. as far as needles go.. what size would be good to start with ? and are parts interchange able with other brand machines (singer, ...ect..)
  7. so how do i cut close to a topstitch or an area that is small ... what do they use in this video? 4:19
  8. so do they come out over time? they feel secure when i put them on and yank on them.... i have heard that copper works great,, but for a handbag, it may be overkill? i was worred about the rust issue.. i put a rivet that i punched into some leather into hydrogen peroxide for like 10 minutes to see what happens.. it didn't rust at all, but overtime, i can see that being a problem.. i may have to switch over to brass.. have you had rust experience you said?? does anyone use buckleguy or ohio travel bag for rivets???
  9. awesome, thanks for the reply. yeah they seem to be on okay so,, is brass better?
  10. so i use jiffy rivets on handbags (on the handles) i have a hand press that works great.. it came with the correct dye set and 100 steal (or iron ) rivets (nickel plated). my question is the strenght of these things.. i think the lenght of the rivet shaft is okay and after i set one, i sometimes do a "pull test" and usually stays strong. do these pop out over time? they feel strong .. and they are super cheap to buy which is nice i think the nickel plate help with the rust issue as well.. any experience with these ? would brass be better? instead of steel? in terms of long term use?
  11. sewing fabric light to medium fabric (polyester, satin, suede) ect here are some local options (i have a leather machine already) so this one is just for fabric stuff any red flags for a particular model? Pfaff 138-6/21 Pfaff 438-6/01 900/51-BS, Pfaff 1445, Pfaff 439, Singer 241-12 Singer 31-15 v zigzag would be prefered so i guess a pfaff may be the winner ?! thankyou for any input / advice!!
  12. this list is for newbies who's machine skips or cuts thread when stitching.... PLEASE ADD to this thread what has helped you.... any tips /tricks/ ect.... if mods want to clean this up and compile into a nice neat list, that would be wonderful.... ill start off .... --check correct needle length and position: if needle is too long, or not pushed up all the way, --tension not tight enough FOR DIFFERENT FEET; if you use a left walking foot ect... turn the tension up --please comment or add
  13. thanks for the help.. so i was playing with it a minute ago.. i turned the smaller wheel on the big wheel.. it loosened something, which allowed the wheel to turn alot more freely, but then the needle and dogfeed didn't move at all.. when i tightened it, the feet and needle would move but it was super hard to move wheel. There was a rubbing noise when i turned the wheel (with it loose) i dumped a ton of oil by the bobbin, but that didn't help too much anyway,, is it worth all the effort to fix it? or should it be more of a decoration,. (i have a cheap new singer home sewing machine.. made in like 2012) would i be better off just continuing to use that? (i also have a consew 227 for leather
  14. its a Ad426453 http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/serial-numbers/singer-ad-series-serial-numbers.html
  15. thanks for the reply... maybe i got the wrong class, but the manual for the machines don't match the machine i got... the one i got looks like this https://www.ebay.com/p/?iid=332177861852&lpid=82&&&ul_noapp=true&chn=ps
  16. i found a pleasent 1931 singer machine class 18 on the curb a few years ago.. it didn't have a power plug or pedel... but my friend had an extra one that i borroowed to test it out today. when i plugged it in for the first time, the motor seemed to spin but the belt wouldn't move.. i had a hard time even by hand to spin the wheel on the side... any ideas to get this thing running?
  17. so i got a swing down edge guide off allibaba (like amazon).. i have a consew 227.. and i have no clue how where to drill the holes... i looked at other ones on the forum on where to drill it, but i was kinda scratching my head with this one.... are the swing down guides universal??? anyone else struggle installing these things?
  18. would the juki be too heavy duty for think lining stuff. ??
  19. there are also a consew7360 and a juki 5550 available... again, i don't need anything super heavy duty for the lining, but easier and more acurate to use
  20. so i design handbags and i think i could use a better machine for the lining inside the purse.. would this machine be good for stitching.. right now i use a home machine with no table and it is tough at times to do something cleanly.. would this be a big upgrade or is there some much better>"? (its the blue model singer 20u)
  21. so i was making handles on a purse (sewing kinda like 2 belts on top of each other sewn together).. using a 1/8 inch seam guide walking foot on my consew227.. but the problem is that even though i go kinda slow, it always gets crooked and goes off on the bottom leather.. any tips for this.. maybe a left toe and swing guide???? help??
  22. so i let the machine sit for a hour before "surgury",, i just tried it now.. and i can go forward fine,, but when i turn the wheel in reverse,, it can't do a full rotation..it gets stuck on that "triangle thing" by the bobbin case
  23. so i was sewing just fine, and the machine was jamming up with thread here and there so i would clean it out.. then all of a sudden, i hear a loud squeech noise... ???? i take a closer look .. i removed some stuff out of the way (throat plate) and stuff by to bobbin area to see what happened??? it looks like the traigle part of the bobbin case in the hook area hit that little "arm" looking thing and it won't turn one full rotation.. either forward or backward... please help!! it makes a loud squeech each time?!?
