  1. sounds like you are making a pancake style holster. i have not made that style yet. i have only made western style holsters. therefore i will coment on this style and it may help you or not. when i am ready to sew up my holsters i will place gun into holster and clamp the edges together using small clamps or you can use rubber cement.after i have installed gun to make sure it fits without adding a welt(remove the handgun at this point) i will true up the edges by using a belt sander with a 120 grit belt installed. i will smooth up the edges using light pressure so i dont burn the leather. after this is done i will use a gouger and gouge the sewing line 3/16" from the outside edge. punch the holes 6 per inch. then sew it. then i wet form the holster to the gun. after it has dried over nite i will finish up the edges and apply the finish(sealer) coat to the holster. for a pancake style holster i think it would be about the same. put handgun into the holster and kinda form it without wet forming it so you can tell where to best stitch it. then stitch it and wetform it.
  2. FXR is made by Harley Davidson. its my understanding that harley Davidson is the only motorcycle company that uses F as the first letter in their model names. therefore anytime you see F#$%^ its a Harley Davidson.
  3. Project looks good. the following is what i do for lacing and may help you. when you have the needle installed on the lace and you are ready to start. take the lace and run it over some bees wax both top and bottom. grab beeswax and with your thumb hold lace on top of it. pull lace through with your other hand. do this for the top and bottom. you can also use a candle if you dont have any beeswax. i use bees wax cause i have 2 pounds of it. this will slick up the lace and aid in pulling it through the leather easier. also get a tool called a lacing fid if you dont have one. you poke the fid into the holes and rotate it so that you can enlarge the holes without cutting the holes. makes it easier to pull lace through. the hole will eventually collapes back down. you may want to try going through the center hole in the corner 3 times. i only go through each hole once till i get to the hole thats in the corner then its 3 times. also tap the lace down with hammer after finished. this does help smooth out the lace. when you decide to go for 2 tone lacing job you will need to go through the corner hole 4 times. I have done the single loop stitch on one project but didnt like it. after that project i went to double loop stitch and never looked back. i highy recommend that you call hidecrafter leather company and order the Chan Geer fancy lacing video. He shows how to do some amazing lacing jobs. he teaches the two tone lacing process in the video. the video is well worth it.

  5. Hello everyone. I am very new to this website. I learned about this website while i was taking sherdian tooling class taught by Chan Geer. anyways, after reading the post on making edge slickers out of coco bolo and some people advise on how you can have a reaction to it because of whats in the wood. I figured this was my cue to chime in. I do quite a bit of woodturning, mainly ink pens, pencils, and coco bolo is one of the many woods that i use. I have no troubles turning, sanding and finishing coco bolo. So if someone wants a coco bolo slicker post or mail me a design on what you want and will let you know if i can do it or not. only asking price will be for cost of materials and shipping cost to your doorstep. hidecrafter also sells a bone folder style edge slicker made out of coco bolo and this is what i use to slick my edges with and it works great for me. it has 3 different size groves in one end to slick edges with. you can also use deer antler for a edge slicker.
