  1. Paul a great teacher and hell of nice guy. was a disappointment to not have Chan get to Portland this year but understand no time to fit it in. Its always a good idea to take classes from various teachers so you can get as much information as possible. Paul's class is one that I felt I needed due to not knowing how to use the swivel knife very well. I will be signing up for Chan's class in pendleton this year.
  2. nice job aaron. and in my old home town too. figures i really need to plan for next year on putting stuff in the fair. some day i want to check out puget sound fair cause pslac put lots of leather items in the fair.
  3. doesnt look aged enough, send it to me so i can age it more for you. kidding aside beautiful job
  4. looks good. for your next one try to angle the basket weave design instead of straight. on holsters i try to find the center of the tooling area then draw a line at whatever angle i want left to right not up to down. then do my basket weave design on that line.
  5. Good call, Paul should be able to help you out. You may want to reconsider the sharp blade issue, so much easier to carve sharp blade. I know the blades are not sharp enough to cut my finger if i run it over the blade edge, just sharp enough to cut leather. pic atached is my new one from Leather wranglers
  6. Aaron if you need any help give me a call. you have my number
  7. guess the phrase "break a leg" dosent work here. bad puns aside get through the surgery safe. get that leg better fast. I spoke with Paul Zalesak today and he asked about how you are doing. (yes i ordered another swivel knife today) You may want to send him a message to let em know how you are doing. hope to see you in class saturday.
  8. toss the tandy leather bevelers in a junk drawer and get some barry king bevelers. he has several sizes and is well worth their weight in gold. after using barry king stamps i wont go back to tandy leather stamps. also if you can afford to do it get the leather wranglers swivel knife its worth it. barry kings swivel knife is also better than tandy leather swivel knife.
  9. thanks Aaron. unless more classes show up looks like i will take chan's classes on lacing and drawing
  10. Aaron, I have a Paul Zalesak sharpened round knife that can solve the problem with you leg . I will be at the pattern class at least for the saturday part. as far as the get together cant do it on first wknd as that is my uncle sam duty. but will make it on 27 sept. anyone have any hints for the pendleton leather trade show classes yet? i cant find anything online about them yet.
  11. the basic set from tandy will get you started. the tools are just that basic and not the greatest. also pickup a basket weave stamp, its not hard to run and will make a good belt pattern. when you decide you want to spend money and get good tools check out barry king tools for stamping. leather wranglers for the swivel knife. go to leather wranglers and watch the video on sharping the swivel knife. it will help you on the tandy swivel knife 100%. the tandy swivel knife is very dull.
  12. fyi just looked in ohio travel bag website and decided to order catalog. they will not send me a catalog because i am not a business, i do leatherworking as a hobby. they sent me to a page and said i need to tell them what my project is and they will direct me to the right people for parts. dont know how long it takes them to decide what people i need to go to.
  13. nice job Chuck. I just moved myself from canby to eagle creek. all of my tools minus a few barry king i left out for class are still boxed. purchased a big shop with a house on the property and right now the shop is full of boxes so cant setup my leather shop yet.
  14. nice holster. one question though. does the front sight hang up on the holster when drawing the handgun fast? i have always designed my holsters to cover all of the barrel due to front sight may catch the holster and hangup.
  15. last pic. when i line holsters i leave lining oversize. glue lining flesh side to flesh side of holster main body then trim lining. then sew top, bottom of holster lining. then fold over sew main seam and wet form done.
  16. a few pics of my holster for inspiration last pic. when i line holsters i leave lining oversize. glue lining flesh side to flesh side of holster main body then trim lining. then sew top, bottom of holster lining. then fold over sew main seam and wet form done.
  17. all the cas rigs i have seen are 2 1/2 inch wide belts the holsters i have made for cas will fit a 2 1/2 "belt
  18. holsters look great.... having your wife shoot and want to carry a handgun in a holster you made is well worth loosing your man card!!!
  19. great looking rig. as far as reloading the handgun i do it the same countrytrash's photo hold in left hand drop shells in with right hand. bobby hdflame i reload the double action revolver(this is the one that the cylinder flops out of the frame) by putting the trigger guard into the palm of my left hand, left fingertips on the cylinder right thumb pushing the cylinder release button. left fingertips pushing the cylinder out and holding on as i tip the gun barrel to the sky right hand slapping the bar that helps push the shells out of the cylinder then using right hand reloading cylinder. during the days that i shot cowboy action shooting style we never reloaded from bullet loops in back of belt. we had 6 loops on our shotgun belt for quicker reloads. the back of belt people said was too slow to grab shells from. most cowboy shooters used the bullet loops on the belt for show.
  20. Chan will be here in Portland Oregon on Wednesday next week teaching us the wonders of sheridan toolling. cant wait. i got my leather tools out and been using(playing) them again in preparation for the class.
