  1. Hi, I have my Singer 138w101 up and running now. to test it on heavy leather I've sewn two pieces of veg tan 7mm thick in total and using 207 thread on top and T135 in the bobbin. I also tried it on lined 4mm veg tan. I'm looking for a bobbin case like the one pictured for the same machine, preferable in Europe somewhere? Thanks.
  2. It is quite heavy... unless you were reckless I would think it would last for ever. im in the middle of purchasing a used 20 tone clicker press, I will check it out on that.
  3. I purchased some leather tools that an 85 yo man was finished with... he said he was tired of making leather belts. As I picked up the tools he was still making another belt for someone!! Among the tools was a leather clicker, it is for holding a D ring on leather bags. I've searched the internet but haven't found anything as good a quality as this? Anyone know more about this die?
  4. That's great! Much better than expected... wish I had that when I started to fix this machine. Really appreciate it! Thanks Bob. Thanks for your help Mike.
  5. Hi all, I need help with this machine... I've contacted a company in England for parts (College Sewing Co.) They wont look at anything unless I have a part number. Problem is I cant get a parts book for this machine? (There is a maintenance manual for Singer 138W101) Maybe someone has a parts book? I'm looking for bobbin cases, bobbins and a thread bar that sits on top of the machine. I'm sure these parts are the same on other machines but I don't know which ones. Any help is greatly appreciated. Ger.
  6. Hi Fred, I'm very interested... I'm a bit away from you but I'm willing to travel. Ger.
  7. I just buy squeeze bottles (like old style plastic ketchup bottles) from cheap shops. Once you have a cap for the top your glue wont dry out. It's also easy to apply the amount of you require and where you need it. I'm a flooring contractor by trade and use gallon's and gallon's of contact adhesive each year. Ger.
  8. How well does the colouring of painted leather hold up over time? Like say 10 to 20 years?
  9. Hi,

    I bought a singer 138w101 lately.

I don't see a lot of parts for this machine on the internet... was it not a good machine?

the only problem I have is the stitch length adjustment, the thread is damaged and I have to screw the spike in tight with a screwdriver. Can this part be replaced?

  10. Love the coloring and shading... if you can colour your leather like that, do you think you could colour a portrait of a persons face? something I've been thinking about lately.
  11. I like your design. I must try it for my knife. Thanks for posting!
  12. Thanks Tom, but I will need more experience before I try showing other people how to craft leather. Cheers.
  13. Hey guys, thanks for all the nice comments, really apreacate it! looking at the video myself... and noticing that my own hands look like my fathers now. It's amazing how fast the time passes. cheers.
  14. When my mother saw it she thought I had made it for her and kept it (she's 82 now) I didn't have the heart to take it from her. I will make another for myself at a later stage. Thanks for the comment though.
  15. Thanks Bikermutt07. DJole, The pens are made by my brother "Michael" and that was the reason for the pen case. He made an Irish bog oak pen (the wood is around three to six thousand years old) for me and a clutch pencil with 5.6mm lead, I should use them but they're so nice I keep them safe.
  16. Hi DJole, you have a lovely selection of leather work there. I have had an interest in leather since my childhood and throughout the years I've picked up tools thinking I'd use them someday... Truth is i only got around to actually making any product this year. I have been a flooring contractor for nearly 40 years now and I'm used to using sharp tools everyday. The pic below is a church I installed a couple of years ago, most floors are just a plain colours but here i had an opportunity to put a few colours together. Cheers.
  17. Hi all, My name is Gerard and I'm from Co. Offaly in Ireland. I've been leather crafting for a short time and only came across this site today. Looks great and i will be very busy looking through all the information here over the next few weeks. I don't have a lot to add at the moment except a small YouTube video i recorded for a few friends and family to look at, but i might as well add it here too. I will be adding another short video on YouTube shortly where my mother gave me some thread and wax my father had used more than 50 years ago. We'll see how it turns out...
