  1. Thanks all for the info. I have seen the 29-4 on EBay etc, for $450 - $1000. Not expecting that price but at least I know that I may be able to break even at the least. Another couple questions. The modern I am making now is for my brother. He wants 2 OWB for his Kimber Solo and he wants them finished in Ostrich. He bought me a Blue Gun mold and a whole Ostrich Skin. I picked up an Ostrich leg in a contrasting color to surprise him. Would you recommend sewing the whole border onto the base leather or just gluing it on? And, if sewing it, do you think the 29-4 could handle that, as it is thin leather on top of 8 oz? Merry Christmas to you all, and a Happy and Profitable New Year!!
  2. Wiz. Thanks for all the info. Unfortunately, funds do not allow the purchase of a $1000 + machine for a small hobby. BillyMac... Yes I live outside Pittsburgh. Would like to visit to see what you do. I am doing the holsters for friends and relatives. The western styles I hand sew and am planning on always doing them that way. I was just hoping to make it a little easier for the moderns. I picked up the 29-4 for $125 after a couple folks on another forum said it would do the work I was trying to do.
  3. Sorry to hear this. I was misinformed about this machine. As I am interested in making holsters, I may end up reselling this machine or parting it out.
  4. I just acquired a Singer 29-4 (1908) with the thinking that I could sew modern holsters and other items. Can this machine be modified to work with VegTan? I read another post that the teeth will permanently mark the leather. Yet I have seen YouTube videos of this machine sewing leather
  5. What does BTSG stand for? I am new to modern weapons and holster making. My brother asked me to make a holster and belt for his Kimber Solo. I am starting to make holsters for my own Colt 1851 Navy Cap and Ball revolvers. Doug
  6. Absolutely great video. I like the closeups and slow motion of the awl and sewing technique. I have to get better at that. I am constantly putting my awl down. Thanks for the instruction. Doug
  7. Yeah, when he asked me for the double ring I had to think way back. Originally went with D-rings then remembered it was O-rings.
  8. Dwight, Thanks for the info. Is that 50 res with 50 water? Also, where do you get your holster patterns? Do you Make your own? Doug
  9. A friend of mine at work asked if I could make him a belt with 2 rings like they had back in the 70's. I said sure... Asked him what color belt and what color rings. Tandy leather 8 oz. with 2 1-1/2" O-rings, 2 Chicago Screws. Most work was on edges and cutting end as I do not have a belt end cutter. Finished with gum trag and resolene. What do you folks use to finish belts?
  10. Thanks. The ostrich just arrived and it is a full REAL ostrich skin. About 4x4 feet. I watched the videos but will watch them several times before I start.
  11. I am a new member and new to leather working. I need a little assistance. I have just started making western style holsters for myself. My brother saw the photo of my first and asked me to make him a holster for his Kimber Solo. He bought me a Blue Gun and a full ostrich skin. Any suggestions on a pattern and how to use the Ostrich skin? He's looking for a right hand carry Outside the waistband (OWB). He told me to make a couple one with belt loops, one with belt clip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
