  1. Beautiful 1911 holster I like everything about it.
  2. Beveling can be a challenge getting the casing just right sure helps. JRLeather2, WOW! beautiful beveling!
  3. The explanation of how you created the pattern was over my head however the pattern itself and the leather work is very good.
  4. Bayou Bengal, Thanks for the nice compliment. Saddleman 15, The light from the flash gave it that effect actually everything is dyed the same color I do agree it looks a little different. Thanks for the nice compliment.
  5. Saddleman 15, if my memory serves me correctly I started leather crafting in about 2003 while I was involved in the game/sport of Cowboy Action Shooting. Although i have been interested and somewhat fascinated with cowboy gun leather and accessories all my life. Thank you for the nice compliment much appreciated.

Happy fishing! Enjoy that new bass boat it's a beauty. Best to you.
  7. This picture shows the carving a little closer-up... what am I thinking that might not be a good thing.
  8. Here is one more I just finished a vintage style Colt 1911 gun rig. Belt 9/10 oz. , Holster 7/8 oz. lined with 4/5 oz. , mag pouch 7/8 oz. all Hermann Oak leather. Sewing hand done saddle stitch using Barbour's Pure flax Sinew. Fiebing's Pro Saddle Tan dye, Fiebing's Tan Kote, hand rubbed with Montana Pitch Blend Leather treatment. Comments and questions always welcome Thanks for looking
  9. Plinkercases: Do you run a swivel cut or a scribe along the inside edge of the pattern when done to clean it up? Most of the time I will run a swivel cut line and if I don't I should, great observation on your part. If the belt is unlined is that a real stitch lien or just a run off an overstitch wheel to give the impression of stitches? Just a run of the overstitch wheel to give the impression. Thanks for the questions ComputerDoctor, Thanks for the compliment. Toe plugs will challenge a person as will thick main seam filler/welts.
  10. Thank you all for the very nice compliments. Plinkercases there is not a toe plug although it is a nice add-on for that holster. LederRudi the holster is from Ghormley's Old West Collection- Cheyenne Holster. I thought the belt was from his Cartridge Belts pattern pack but when I looked it's not one of those. I have been making that belt for a long time, on patterns I use often, I transfer them to stronger stock, sorry can't remember the origin of the belt.
  11. Correction, I miss spoke in the above post. The holster was crafted with 7/8 oz and lined with 4/5 oz. the belt is unlined 9/10 oz. Thanks! Regis
  12. Here is one I recently made using 9/10 oz Hermann Oak leather. Hand stitched using the saddle stitching method with five strand Barbour's thread hand waxed. Both the belt and holster patterns are from Will Ghormley's Old West Collection I have used his patterns many times can't go wrong they are very accurate. The dye is Fiebing's medium brown sealed with Fiebing's Tan Kote and treated with Montana Pitch-Blend. Comments welcome Hope you like it thanks for looking.
  13. WOW! If this is you're openers I am looking forward to seeing what you can do in a year. Outstanding!
  14. Thanks bikermutt07! I like your stitching and gravy comparison lots of truth there.
  15. I have used gum tragacanth on the back side of unlined belts and inside of unlined holsters and it works well. Haven't used Resolene on the back side but have used Tan Kote. Tom those are good looking belts and I think belts like those for jeans are more comfortable just like you have them without lining the back. In time they will feel like an old comfortable shirt... nice and soft. Good work.
  16. I was on this site several years ago glad to be back. I got away from leathercrafting for a while for some reason the creative light just went dim. I boxed up my tools and put them away. About two months ago I started getting the urge and I took my tools out of the boxes found a couple unfinished projects and got to work, feels good to be back at it again. My primary niche is Old West gun leather and pretty much anything cowboy. I enjoy using the pictures in the book Packing Iron as inspiration for my patterns.
  17. Outstanding! Not only looks great but what a great idea. I'm back to this site after being away several years.
