Hello all, Not sure if this is the right section to be posting in, but it seemed the most logical. I have a large brass stamp, 10cm x 10cm. It came with an electric branding iron advertised to handle that size of brass stamp, but it does not get hot enough to properly brand the leather. It will smoke the leather, but it wont singe it like with the smaller brands. I am planning on using it on both wood and leather, but the heater I have simply wont work, by the time it gets to its maximum temperature, it starts to melt the black handle. So, either I need a cheap recommendation (under $200) for a better electric iron, or I need some advice on how to heat it up alternatively. I have heard that you can heat it up over an open flame, so I was planning on getting a butane torch from walmart and trying that out, but I am worried that I will get the brand too hot and it will burn the wood/leather too much as I have experienced in the past branding when an iron gets too hot. Is there a good method for doing this? How long to hold the flame over the brand? If the brand gets red hot, is that TOO hot? Thanks! Zayne

Hi, I'm trying to troubleshoot branding my logo into an oil tanned leather. When I brand it in I'm using my Kwikprint 55 machine with magnesium dies, temp set at 450F and dwelling for almost a minute. The branding turns out great at first but if I wrinkle around the leather at all, the nice dark area just disappears. It's like I just can't burn the leather enough, even at that high heat. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance, Lori

Hello All, After spending an ungodly amount of time scowering all the resource threads I am having a hard time locating a good avenue to grow your business through an industry forum. We are currently in numerous local shops in the Indianapolis, Indiana area but looking for a forum that will provide communication between craftsmen and the buyer (wholesale). Leatherworker.net is such a great tool to share ideas and processes but I am trying to find something that can connect to the industry. We have attended trade shows such as MAGIC and Desert and Denim but would love to connect on a wider scale throughout the US. Any info helps! Cheers,

Hello, I was wondering if anyone on here has a good, fast and accurate toolset for branding names into leather. I have multiple customers that want branded names and need a quick way to switch out type, that also heats up fast. Currently I use a set by LW Leather - but I find that the type will not sit straight, or buckles when you tighten it. Also the branding mark seems a bit inconsistent. Are there any more standard solutions, even high-end solutions for this type of thing? Thanks!

Hello everyone! I'm new to this environment and would like to introduce myself (I tried looking for the specific board to introduce myself as a newbie but not sure if I overlooked it). Name's Chris [from California] and started this leather craft journey about close to 2 years ago. I've been in my cave honing in on the most efficient methods of constructing quality leather goods. I'm still in the fetal stages of blossoming the business. At the moment still developing templates and prototypes for more elaborate products (bifolds, messenger bags, holsters, etc.). So my inquiry is moreso based on the presentation/marketing aspects [i.e. What draws you in or away?] ANYHOW... Would love to get a critique on what I have out so far before I officially launch my own .com webstore. My .com domain is (for now) directly attached to my blog template which has a link to my shop at top. But in a few months I will be migrating that domain name to an actual webstore for my "brand". Just wanted to know if there was anything I can improve upon in terms of the presentation. My website at the moment is: www.mojobazaar.com and my shop link is: www.mojobazaar.etsy.com I infinitely appreciate the time! And if there is anything I should know about forum etiquette, please let me know if this was an inappropriate post. Cheers, Chris

Stumbled upon an interesting DIY blog post on leather hot stamping using an iron and thought some of you will like to try it out at home too! http://minkudesign.c...011/09/04/1682/ If you want more control on the temperature and final degree of darkness, we provide a heat embosser with temperature control! https://www.etsy.com...-heat-embosser?

I recently got my new "Hellcat" tattoo and I'm thinking about turning it into my "Hellcat Leathers" logo. What do ya'll think compared to the current one? I would appreciate any advice. All color or just black? Thanks.
