This is my first attempt at working with leather. I've taken no classes; I'm kind-of learning as I go. The mistakes are many, the imperfections are obvious, & the room for improvement is vast. I know this much...but nonetheless, it didn't turn out completely terrible..did it? I made this checkbook cover for my 78 year old Vietnam veteran father. I told him I wasn't entirely happy with it, but he insisted the imperfections are what makes it perfect in his eyes. I'm aware not everyone will be as kind as him (after all, he is partial), but I want to get better at the craft. With that being said, what am I doing wrong with my beveling? The Hi-Lite I applied to outline the crossed cannons just didn't turn out right. The beveling tool I used is B197. Do I need to use a different tool? Or am I just doing it wrong? Thanks for taking a look!

Hi all, been asked by my friend to copy a checkbook holder. Everything seems pretty straightforward except for the hidden card slots. It could have probably been shared here before, but is anybody to help me out? How do we lay it out internally so that we do not see the seams on the outside? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! https://www.byndartisan.com/personalised-leather-gifts/48-cheque-book-holder.html?search_query=cheque&results=1#/9-colour-red

Hello all, This post is a follow-up to my last post on January 24th about TJ's Gibson Les Paul guitar carving on a laptop cover. Thank you to those of you for taking time to view TJ's work and sending feedback. Another one of my favorite leather carvings that he did a while back was his underwater sea creatures checkbook leather work. When your schedule permits, please visit his website at www.customleathercarvings.com and send him feedback through the contact form on the showcase gallery page. He loves to hear comments about his work! Thank you, Mike

Hello, I hope someone here can help me. I am looking forTandy Kit number 4181 Top Stub Checkbook Kit. I just need the pattern/template. Not the whole kit itself. I have looked on ebay, Amazon, google to see if we had swaps or something around my area, and I have even called my closest Tandy store to see if they could help me locate it. Results.... Nothing. I even went as far as to contact a seller on Etsy who makes and sells top stub covers, but it has been a couple of weeks and she hasn't answered me. This is going to be a birthday gift and it is fast approaching so I don't have time to order a cheap plastic cover to try and do my own. And I can't ask the birthday girl to give me a book of her checks for measurements LOL. Even if someone has something similar it would be greatly appreciated!! Here is a picture of what this kit looked like. And many thanks in advance

From the album: Some of my first projects
My tandy kit checkbook cover. This was my second project (after the coasters) mere hours after first opening my kit. I had tried their sample sheridan flower design on a piece of scrap and decided I didn't like doing that style right off (plus...not very original), so I turned to figure carving. The lines for my lettering could have been cut a bit more straight, but hey, it was my first go. I was trying to make the initials look like a cattle brand, so I think I succeeded (in my humble opinion), and I am still (over a year later) insanely proud of that elk-

One of my more recent pieces...maybe about 5 years ago. I love the design. It was so easy to carve because of the flow of the design. Would still like to make a deeper impression...
