Hello, I own the above school chair (a mid-century product from a company called MELSUR). I'd love to replace the green material with leather and was hoping for some guidance as far as technique (sewing versus using grommets), the proper leather thickness, and anything else I might not have considered as a beginner. I've seen this upcycle done with lawn chairs but never a school chair. Thanks for your help!

Hi all, I have lung issues and am concerned about working with chrome tanned leather. I know that it can be made so that it is safe to use but I don’t know who offers it for sale that way. I imagine US manufacturing would be the best way to go but how do you know? I know US manufactures would be the safest for the environment too.I don’t even know if there is any chrome tan made in the USA. I am interested in mostly pull up types and some upholstery types. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to purchase and how to identify when buying on line. I don’t typically see where it is made in the add to cart page. I plan on being at the 2022 Sheridan show and will be looking. Thanks in advance, and if this has already been talked about please direct me.

New leatherworker and I am making some guitar straps for friends and family. My plan is to carve designs into the leather and if possible use paint to make them standout more...which is why we use paint... Anyway, the leather is oil treated chrom tanned leather (Tandy Leather's "Stoned Oil Sides"), will acrylic paint, which is the only paying I've found for leather, bind with the chrome tanned leather or am I going to have to do with plain carvings without color? Thank you for the shared knowledge.

Hello all. Short and quick question that I know won't have a short answer. I have a Gritzner sole stitching machine that works like a charm. When stitching the wet leather sole, the chrome face plate is turning my leather sole black (chrome worn off). I am wanting to rechrome the faceplate but wanted to get everybody's opinion first. Has anybody successfully had parts rechromed for sewing machines? Would it be cost effective or would the tolerances be out of wack by doing so. The reason I want to rechrome is the wonderful world of google returns nothing as far as Gritzner or Frobana new parts. If anybody has a good source for parts I would be equally interested.

Have looked through many posts but not really had any success in my quest I don't wont to use paints etc on the edges, so need to bring that option up Using very fine about 1mm chrome leather similar to furniture leather, looking to treat the edges without using paints, have tried Gum Trag with limited success and the same with bees wax but is there a better way like heat tools etc Tried creasing with double pronged creaser, and heat, works well with veg tan but hardly a mark with Chrome is it a case of more heat?

Hello:) This is my first post, and I'm not sure it's right section. English is not my native language, so I please your indulgence So, I'd like to ask what method and what kind of leather is this belt made? In the product description is information: "oil washed vegetable tanned leather", but it look like chrome tanned leather. Mostly I care about greenish-gray colour of the edges, and back. Is any DIY method to achieve effect like this or where I can buy leather like this, thick on 3,5-4mm? Here is next example with similiar effect, but colour is more blueish-gray. I thank You in advance for answer.

Hey everyone. I feel like I've searched the internet for years looking for suppliers of chrome tanned leather in assorted colors. I use hidehouse now for just about all semi-aniline leathers as they are consistent, but very limiting in colors. I found another fellow bagmaker who uses the most beautiful leathers, but I don't want to be insulting and ask their to divulge their supplier. Of course we have different styles and designs, but ideally we have the same target customer. And I can't say I would give up those secrets myself! I've attached a picture and below is a list of suppliers I've already found. I have a feeling my best option is probably overseas, which I have no experience with. Any additional suppliers in the US or Abroad you guys can think of would be helpful! Hide House Moore & Giles Waterhouse (just ordered samples) Auburn Leather Company The Leather Guy (just ordered samples) and then all the big saddle guys: Tandy (bleh) Springfield Wickett Thouroughbread Weaver etc... Thanks everyone! ...

Hello. I have both vegetable and chrome tanned leather. What is the best way of embossing/de bossing both using the same dies/embosser. I have limited funds so can't afford two seperate machines.

Hello Everyone! My wife and I are moving to Europe, so currently we have a small stock of Fashion Leathers, as well as some hardware. The leathers are Chrome Tanned, hardware is Solid brass and we also have a big batch of RiRi Zippers. If you're interested, please don't hesitate to ask for prices, more pictures or further description - we can work out a great deal that could benefit both sides. Obviously, due to import and shipping fees, buyers from Mexico are preferred! Thanks for checking! p.s.: Please don't mind the notations in Hungarian - the images were taken from our brochure for a client in Hungary

Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me with my dilemma. I have a logo that I want to emboss on my leather bags. I've done a bunch of research and it seems like an arbor press and brass plate are the way to go in veg tanned leather, BUT i use chromium dyed leather! I'm wondering if someone can give me advice here. Will an arbor press work on this soft leather? If so, do I need a 1 ton or 2 ton? And any recommendations on what type of stamp to get- do i need a brass one? or I've seen some people who are making them out of a durable plastic now for cheap... See the attached picture for an example of what I'm looking for! Thanks a bunch everyone! I'm so glad this website exsits, I can't tell ya'll how often I come here for guidance! Erin

I'm looking to find some good suppliers for quality top/full grain, chrome tanned leathers in a variety of colours in Montreal. I prefer skins thicker than garment weight, for use in creating bags and small leather goods. Thanks!
