About Me

  1. Hi Everybody! I saw this pattern on Instagram a few weeks ago and absolutely had to make my own. It was a fun build and also doubles as a pandemic mask when I go grocery shopping. lol I started with a mix of Eco-flo dyes that I was just trying to get rid of. Then I went to do a little wet molding and didn't think about the water based dyes so i ended up having to redo the dye job. I think it came out better though! I tried to give it a "freshly burst from my chest" look. The pattern came from https://www.leatherhubpatterns.com/ if you give it a go I recommend using about 5-6oz leather for the tail, or skive down the "sides" that get stitched together. 7oz was a real pain to get it do do what I wanted.
  2. This is a leather mask I made. I tried to give it samurai-esque aesthetic.
  3. Hello everyone, Brand new to leather craft here. I've barely scratched the surface (no pun intended) and I'm already addicted. My stamping is horrible but it was fun. I'm looking forward to practicing some hand stitching. I'm broke so im.buying tools slowly, but getting there. Thanks for the community!
  4. Made a mask. Wet formed it over a skull and my own face. Totally wearing this at work right now.
  5. Since Halloween is coming up, I thought I'd share my mask making tutorial. It of course is not the absolute word in mask making, but I thought it was a good introduction. Just follow the link: http://ranasp.deviantart.com/art/Leather-Mask-Making-Tutorial-41572623 and click on the image to make it larger. I'd welcome any thoughts on it as well.
  6. I've been a busy bee creating my own little world for the past year. I just realized I haven't updated my albums in a long time and I've created so much! I am having some problems uploading all the images but I will be adding what I can to my albums.

    Masks

It's been awhile since I've posted anything. I've been fairly busy though! There's always room to grow so I am eternally grateful for everyone's input! I've been creating a lot of masks lately. Here's just a few.
  8. All handmade veg-tan leather mask. "Fire Wolf" is a half mask, painted after the carving, tooling and forming. I can custom make masks.
  9. Hi everybody! So I finally finished a mask I was working on! It has some room for improvement but I really love it!
  10. TomBanwell

    Rhino mask

I just finished a large steampunk rhinoceros mask and wanted to share it with you all. It is made of 5-6 oz veg tan with cold cast aluminum metal parts. Best, Tom
  11. After a few prototypes and studies I finally finished a complete, full-sized mask. Not completely satisfied with how poorly eco-flo super sheene performed blocking the brown hi-lite color stain in the white areas despite having applied 5 coats. Next time I'll try resolene.
  12. TRHLeather

    Owl Mask

I just finished making an owl mask for a friend of mine for her birthday. It's 4oz veg tanned, wet formed and dyed with Fiebings tan and painted over with Cova colour.
  13. Hey everybody. Here is one of my recent projects that I did for Dia De Los Muertos. I really liked the way it turned out. I am open to critiques please! I posted it in critique my work but I didn't get any input as of yet.
  14. I am working on making a full-face mask for use in bad weather on a motorcycle. I am having a problem figuring out how to add. Eye protection without ruining the masks aesthetic. The mask is skin tight and held on by a gas mask style strap system and has rectangular holes for the eyes and mouth. Any suggestions would be helpful.
  15. TRHLeather

    Sun/moon Mask

Made a mask for my sister for her birthday. Wet formed the mask with some white glue in the water to make it set up harder then painted it and played with the airbrush a little.

The mask is made for the stage character of our friend Faye Odobescu in our project «Venture to your Dream» Especially for this mask was made master model forming on the individual sizes of a project participant, considering all his wishes, including the brow line underestimated due to the need to wear a mask with the cylinder. Materials for it served: veg-tanned leather 2.4-2.7 mm (6-7 oz), cattle leather 1.0-1.2 mm and 0.8-0.9 mm sheepskin. The mask is extended from a single piece of leather and has a single connecting seam on the bottom of the beak, which slotted for breathing. To make the image of completeness, and mask - convenience, sewn along the edge of soft sheepskin, which imitates bird goiter and passing in framing mask covering his forehead and hair. The mask has 5 fixing points, ensuring a comfortable and quite a tight fit on the head that allows you to freely tilt your head and talk without any difficulty. At the heart of the concept lies crow skull, so after we have completed forming stamping anatomical features such as eyebrows, cheekbones, nasal bone, nasal openings and comb beak, followed by painting of an old bone. In addition, the added nuances such as pits, ducts and grooves. In the future we will be able to show you pictures of the finished character, and now present to you the photo of the finished mask on a mannequin.

  18. Randahl

    Hawk Mask

Spent a little some making a mask for a New Years Eve party. Since I have not posted for a while, I thought I would put it up today.
  19. From the album: Random Things I've Made

Was just goofing off with this one. Used a jello mold. :D
  20. Ok so I found this picture years ago and always loved it! Do any of you professionals have any ideas on how to start on this? I'm still a novice and have never made a mask before. I have a feeling that after this one I will want to make more. I'm thinking super hero masks (wolverine, ironman, thore). I know some of these could be considered helmets also but I would love to try it out. Thanks in advance!
  21. This mask was made for a client's former boss that rides and builds bobbers. His bike's name is "Rusty Mermaid" & has engraved scales on the tank. Here's the finsihed product of the "Rusty Mermaid" motorcycle mask.
  22. Hand stitched with artificial sinew, this is the first of the new Plague Doctor masks. A huge upgrade to our original half-mask, this covers the entire face and has stitched and riveted lenses covering the eye sockets. Plague Doctor masks were worn in Medieval Europe by doctors who would place a pomander of fresh scented herbs and spices in the beak. The beliefs of the time were that disease spread through 'foul humours' - airborne contaminants - and that covering the face and breathing in the fresh herbs would prevent them from catching the plague. Unfortunately, though inevitably, many such doctors succumbed to the plagues they were attempting to treat.
  23. Well, actually, there is a sixth one that I don't have a picture of. I just finished making a batch of five masks that I'm really pleased with. I can see a huge difference between them, and my earlier masks...even the one I made last month! I don't have pictures of the new masks yet. Most of them are flower-themed, so my partner-in-crime and I are going to do a photoshoot near flowers hopefully tomorrow if the weather cooperates and the filming they are doing in our neighborhood doesn't get in the way. Until then, I thought I would post my earlier masks! They're made from tooling leather of various weights, and most are painted with acrylics. (Sorry for my face in one of them; I don't have a picture of just the mask yet). Most of them were made for our yearly themed Halloween parties. It's not until this past month I've gotten into making them for Etsy. The Minotaur (2012): Knossos Bee (2012): Rose Sugar Skull (2013): Marigold Sugar Skull (2013): Icarus (2014):
  24. I stuck this in the gallery a ways back but never posted it for thoughts and reviews. Today...we fix that! So...whatchathink?
  25. From the album: Ja5on's Leather

This is a leather steampunk gas mask that my daughter asked me to make for her.
