Can anyone recommned a good supplier where you could buy most of the supplies you would need? One stop shopping I guess. Considerations would be price, selection & service.

Looking for one place I can buy:

leather (better than the cheap stuff I've been

hardware (snaps, screws, rivets...)

belt clips

dyes

finishes (fiebings bag kote, resolene...)

Thanks!

JRB,

Your best one-stop-shopping supplier may depend on whether you're a professional or a hobbyist. Some suppliers don't want to deal with you if you don't have a tax ID or are able to make a minimum purchase.

If you're a hobbyist like I am, I think it's hard to beat Tandy. Their cheap leather is just that (cheap), but they have higher quality and higher priced alternatives. Overall product prices are competitive, especially if you're part of their wholesale club ($35 annually). The wholesale club starts paying off after about $150 worth of purchases. Selection is very good and so is the customer service at every store I've dealt with.

Weaver Leather gets most of my money for everything except veg tan, which I get from distributors who sell no. 1 grade Hermann Oak by the side or from the tannery, like Wickett and Craig.

But, depending what kind of work you do, there is no such animal as a one stop supplier unless you aren't too picky. Nobody has it all wrapped up.

There is no one supplier who carries everything. I buy from Tandy, Weaver, Wickett & Craig, Herman Oak, Siegel of California, Ohio Travel Bag, Springfield Leather, Sheridan Leather Outfitters and the list goes on. It pays to shop around get the best prices. Some do not carry what others does. Some have the same stuff but one will have it cheeper or have it on sale.

I like dealing with the same people all the time also but I am not so loyal that if someone has a sale that I will not buy from them. I really like Seigel as they have free shipping over 75.00, that alone will save you 20-30.00 on a side of leather.

I would like to find someone that carries all the wallet insides that Tandy used to carry but no long do. Anyone know where to find them?

I can't really comment on US suppliers, but in my opinion it's a good idea to establish a relationship with more than one supplier.

As Bree says, no-one has everything and some may be better than others on particular items. I use five or six suppliers here in the UK, but you do need to look out for the minimum order or shipping charges!

Do you know about Nova Leather in Canada? They've got a huge assortment of wallet kits. They don't show all the products they make on their site, but you can go there to order a catalog.
