I buy these chopping mats at the Dollar store (which is a $1.25 store these days) and use them to protect my bench top when dying or using cement. They wipe clean with alcohol.

In Europe Ikea sells something similar. 2 for £1.50

Here in the US . . . everything Ikea sells . . . comes with screws that don't fit . . . and generally one broken piece.

Well, I don't know about that -- nothing I've ever got from my area IKEA store has had those problems. Certainly not the cutting boards! ;-)
