needle DPX17D 135/17.  125/20

why is my machine sewing a nice stitch on 7 oz veg but skips stitch’s when anything is thicker?   It has sewn it before with out issues

Increase the pressure on the presser foot.  The leather may be lifting up and losing the loop so the hook can't catch it when you are on thick or harder leather.  Happened to me last week!

Try a different leather point shape than diamond. Sometimes a slicing wedge performs better in dense leather. This would also let you move up one needle size if tight holes are the problem.

Little known factoid:
Schmetz make System 134-35 needles in "S" point, which is an inline slicing wedge. They are about 1mm shorter than System 135x16/17. Sometimes they work with out any needle bar adjustment. Otherwise, lower the bar 1mm when using 134-35.

Aren't the 135x17 needles for fabric? And wouldn't a size 22 needle be a minimum for 207? Or am I off with the numbers for that machine?

Should use #23 for 207,#22 is for 138
