Knife sheath interior finish

What do you use inside a knife sheath, other than a lining, to protect the knife blade from leather...rust wise, etc?....wax, dubbin ?

nothing, just treat the leather so it protects the knife from those things. i use a good outdoor water resistant conditioner for boots and outdoor gear.

I don't do anything, including lining. Never been any reason to. If it gets wet, take the knife out until it's dry. But as Chuck said "use a good outdoor water resistant conditioner for boots and outdoor gear" to minimize that issue.

Thanks, I'm making some sheaths for a bloke who makes these fancy handmade knives and I was a bit concerned about the possible effect on the blades.

Just be careful what leather you use.  Veggie tan is the preferred leather . . . some of the chrome tans and others just might be a problem.  I would not trust them.

PLUS . . . it is a good idea to make sure the sheath is not damp or wet . . . THAT can be a problem as well.

a. the few knife sheaths and sword scabbards I've made I've just rubbed in plenty of beeswax on the inside part
