Magnetic bookmark

Recommended Posts

I had someone ask me to make a magnetic bookmark for his daughter for Christmas. I had never heard of these but looked them up and gave it a go. It was a fun quick project a little tooling and I'm pretty happy with how it came out. What do you think?

Thank you!.Same here, really it's a money clip but a bit bigger, they are are sold as bookmarks. Now that I have a pattern made i figure I'll order a few more magnets and and make some more.

What a brilliant idea   Never seen those before.

Is it OK if I tried a few of those?  Its a great way to use up scraps, that we all have so much of.

Looks great.  I tried making one of these recently but it didn't come out as good as yours.  my dimensions were off and it just looked a little strange.  Would you be wiling to share your pattern?

I'm guessing that these are a hit and soon to have the word ' hot'  next to the thread heading     I have a lot of spare  magnets  that I could use. These would also make great Christmas gifts.

Go for it. I bought the magnets from Amazon 1.25" flat magnets.

I tried doing it with my phone but it won't size right. I'll scan it at work tomorrow and have it available in a pdf tomorrow night.

Try this

gran a sheet of paper,  I’ll wait…………

got a pen?   A square?   Ok let’s roll

opps.  Got sizzors?

cut a 2” x 8” piece

fold in half, mark center

umfold, fold in half the other way

mark center

draw your center lines using the mark you made

you have a big x on your paper

on the 2” side of the paper, from center line measure up 1/2”  make a mark

draw a line parallel to the center line

1/2” on both sides of the center line

go back to the center draw a line 1” both sides of center line

you are looking at a rectangle

Next

image.thumb.jpg.882f806801dd9fb05bf3edd3fb01bb1b.jpg

from center line, draw a line 2” to the left and right of center

from outside edge to outside edge of your rectangle. Draw a 45 degree line

see my image and cut it out

Sort it took so long. I'm not very good with computers I still can't figure out how to put it in a pdf and make it work.

I scanned a copy of the traced pattern and I printed it out it comes out a bit over sized by about a 1/8th of a inch. But it will definitely get you in the ballpark. Oh and I just double checked and I used 1 and 1/8th inch magnets but 1 and 1/4 inch magnets would probably work great on the slightly oversized printed pattern.
