Right then,

never thought such a request would happen here, but seems it has.  A regular customer of mine has bought an old John Deere tractor.  He wants / needs a place to store a soft bound wee book.  Seems there might have been one on the tractor previously, as there are two holes on the right hand rear fender.  Regardless, he was not after anything stunning, but when he brought the tractor round the shop so I could do measurements, I mentioned doing it in John Deere green with yellow stitching.  Aye, he was sold!

I've been on experimenting to get the proper green, but cannae get there.  I've been mixing Pro Dye green with yellow and with spirits to find the green, but no even close.  A entirely different shade of green.

Have any of you lot (especially Americans due to the amount of John Deere users in the USA) a mix ratio for the stunning green colour?

Looking forward to the responses.  Cheers!

I think that much of the leather paint is acrylic paint, so perhaps you could just get some acrylic JD paint and use that?

I tried to google JD green and the RAL number seems to be 6001.  But like Constabulary says, I think it all depends on the age of the tractor.

Good luck, and please show the end result.

Might find a group that restores JD tractor's and see if they have info.   In part of US where I live, I've seen restored tractors taken to local county fairgrounds, some just for looks and others use them in vintage tractor pull competitions.

I have been doing some painting of leather and I like to use acrylic paint that has been thinned alot. I like the angelus for consistency. I thin to the point it is almost like water, or dye. I like the 4 oz bottles and put on the twist top so I can count the number of drops. I also use the angelus 2- thin. Use 1 part paint and 1 part thinner and as many as 5 parts water. Think  of  water color paints as a kid. At this point it can take a couple coats but I feel it absorbs like dye rather than laying on top like paint.

When mixing for a new color i have to look it up. Google says 1 part yellow to one part blue. Then to lighten add one part yellow. One drop at a time. To darken 1 drop red at a time. I use a brush mostly but if thinned enough I can use my little battery powered airbrush. You can get some handy accessories zat dollar tree for painting.
