Singer 29K wheel in the base stand wobbles

Recommended Posts

Sourced a Singer Patcher 29K metal base cheaply. The lower dual belt wheel wobbles and I am perplexed as to what’s causing it.

Anyone got any ideas?

I’ll try to compress a short video but in the meantime someone might have had a similar issue.

Hopefully a compressed video. Also I can’t find a parts list or diagram for the base parts. Anyone got a copy or can direct me to one.

does not help much - better upload the Video to Youtube and post a link here.

I cant get it to play long enough to get a good look but the hub appears to wobble. So it's pretty much a bent shaft.

It probably banged around in a pickup truck or other barbarous condition.

Yep  bent shaft.  Remove the crank shaft and wheel and lets see what is bent.

Posting photos of the U axle which is out of alignment and causing the wobble.

The pitman arm was made out of wood and it was tricky getting the screw out of the end of it to remove it from the axle. Mr Singer sure made things to last as there are no bearings and it’s just oil that keeps them rotating.

Thanks to all the people who commented.
