Dog lead help - new member!

Hi everyone! I'm new here and new to the leather world
I want to know if there's any website or youtube channel that can help me starting out.

Also I wanted to ask how I can create this type of lead, without stitches holding the clipper and with a secondary color added

bleed knot, blood knot, slit braid are all terms relating to this braid.  I have seen the 2 colour braid somewhere but can't locate it at the moment.

Converted and replaced your webp photo file.  Many members will not download and open file types they are not familiar with.  Use jpeg or png files as they will display without having to download them.  Webp files are from google and chrome.  Google owns the world!

You can do a google search limited to leatherworker.net like this:

site:leatherworker.net "your search parameters".  replace the "your search parameters" with the words / items you are searching for (without quotation marks).

example:

site:leatherworker.net bleed knot

The bowtie loops can be made with a leather cutting die. Or as Northmount mentioned a bleed knot can be made. 

Here is a pic of the cutter die.  They make a larger die for handbags & such, but wanted to show you the die shape.

@MB1 I've done some more searching.

The correct name for the 'braid' is called a slit braid.  See Bruce Grant's Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding.  Many people call it a bleed knot or blood knot.

To get the secondary colour, locate the position the clip will be placed and dye the short end red or your selected colour.  Then proceed with your "braiding".

I have a lot to learn and very motivated to, the "problem" is finding the right tools to learn what I want to do

Don't get hung up needing all the name brand, hi dollar tools everyone seems to have. Get a basic tooling set and get to work.  Looks like an Exacto knife and a straight edge are all you need for those dog leads, Pretty cool looking, actually.

I agree with @AlZilla thoughts on tools.

This type of dog lead looks really pretty but from my experience it should not be used on trying to control a larger or more powerful dog. Also be careful in choosing the correct weight and width of leather. I find using two layers of 6 or so ounce leather glued together gives a nice smooth surface on both sides. I also stitch both edges the length with V138. I figure this would be good up to about an 80lb dog. Also use #9 copper rivets at the clip end and for connecting the loop to the lead. If you need to make one for a real puller I would suggest incorporating a nylon webbing between the two layers of leather. Just my thoughts.

It's actually another leather strip added and not dyed. I think they maybe end the initial strip after the first knot around the snap hook and then add the secondary strip?
