Are there any jump foot needle feed machines in mid size range?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone familiar of a mid size machine that can take a 135x16/17 needle with a jump foot and needle feed?

I'm thinking I'd like to have one for some really small fine work  (don't want a wheel presser).

Just a jump foot (a real jump foot) and needle feed only.

I had one in the mid 1980s. It was a Singer 31-something. It had a spring loaded jump foot. I used it to sew leather bests and lined belts with #69 or 92 binded thread.

Thanks, Bob. I remember now. It was a 31-19. It was many many moons ago!

wondering why you are focused on a jump foot. Why not triple feed like the Singer 111W156 / 111G156, Juki 563 or similar as Pfaff 145 / 545 Adler 67, 167, 267 and so forth...

@Cumberland Highpower

I just remembered about another machine that had a jump foot AND needle feed. It was called the Number 9. It disappeared in the mid 20th Century, then was reborn as the Luberto Classic. This then disappeared about 10 years ago. These were heavy duty harness stitchers, not well suited to delicate work. Both used a really long needle system that could deflect in the thinner sizes (for thinner thread).

Well, I have Seikos, Consews, Adlers, Brothers and a Nakajima that all take the 135x needle system. Half of those are triple feed.

  A jump foot can have the same external "footprint" of a triple feed inner and outer foot set, yet have over twice the actual surface area of either individual foot to spread pressure out on the work.    If I had needle feed and a jump foot, I could just use a needle plate with a slot and eliminate the feed dog.

It's just something I'd like to have. Not a necessity.  Why not?

Looks like the 44-9 isn't a needle feed after all.  just looked it up.

I had 2 of those in the Classic version. They were ok/decent machines, but slow.  I broke more needles on them than anything else.

What do you mean jump foot with a spring?

okay got you - so I think a Singer 78 / CONSEW 28 could be a choice. They have no feed dog and a slotted needle plate + needle feed but it is not jump foot machine. Feet work as on triple feed machines. So just a suggestion. But parts & feet are rather hard to find.

Some older machines had their outer presserfoot moving back by the force of a spring
