I was gifted a shoe patcher machine. Just need help getting it to work well!

The pin usually has a larger diameter on one side and by the looks of the pin you tried to knock it out the wrong way. I would try knocking it back, then cutting the damaged section off of the pin and use a drift punch to knock it out the other side. In the end you may wind up drilling it out. A 3" nail will work as a replacement pin.

That little "deep" spot could account for the resistance you're feeling, basically it's just the change in direction (roller going down then suddenly going up). If the track feels smooth then I reckon your best bet is to just start using it.

Machines wot I have - Singer 51W59; Singer 331K4; Seiko STH-8BLD; Pfaff 335; CB4500.

Chinese shoe patcher; Singer 201K (old hand crank)
