Members Dwight Posted January 20 Members Report Posted January 20 For the last couple of years . . . been telling myself I'm gonna make me a set of saddle bags . . . horse and rider type saddlebags . . . not the Harley kind. Every place I look . . . patterns and all . . . they are almost the size of a woman's small purse . . . On the western's on TV . . . they seem to be a lot bigger. The question I'm asking . . . what are the largest set you've seen or made . . . height / width / depth. I'm looking to replace my AWOL bag from the Navy . . . and I thought that might work . . . Thanks for whatever help you can toss my way. May God bless, Dwight Quote If you can breathe, . . . thank God. If you can read, . . . thank a teacher. AlZilla Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 These look like horse saddle bags to me. Just something that showed up in my utube notifications. Members TonyV Posted January 20 Members Report Posted January 20 Yeah, that's the vid I was thinking of. Or, just upsize the purse-size pattern to your liking. Quote

Members ClaimedVacancy Posted January 21 Members Report Posted January 21 (edited) @Dwight Looks like I might have inspired ya huh? So the size of the one I posted is 16” long, 11” tall, and 4” deep. Only problem is that it’s not an available template since I had to create it. This book https://archive.org/details/leatherworkingha0000mich/page/128/mode/2up by Valerie Michael has a template in the advanced section that is close to the same size if that interests you. And with the online archive you can just borrow the book versus buying it. If you would rather the Swiss type, you can get one for $50 and take it apart to create your own, or! Just use it as is. This is BY FAR the best price for these bags. Most still have a ton of life left in them too. I’ve purchase from Teskey for years, and they are just down the road from me. https://teskeys.com/collections/salebarn-tack/products/used-vintage-german-leather-saddle-bag-copy-3 This one would be a lot more simple, and it’s about 13-14” long, 9-10” tall, 3-4” deep. I have one and it is fantastic. https://teskeys.com/collections/salebarn-tack/products/used-vintage-german-leather-saddle-bag-copy-1 Take a look on their barn sale page. rktaylor Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 This is what I would consider a medium-large size. It's 8" wide, 9" tall with a 4.5" (cut size) gusset. Randy Quote
Members Thadrick Posted January 21 Members Report Posted January 21 I made a set a few years ago. 12x12x4 Funny how I never seem use them? They just sit here over the back of my couch on display. I planned to hang them over the seat in my truck but figure someone might break my window to steal them? Quote
