Bree Report post Posted January 20, 2009 Let me say that I gave $$$ to the McCain Campaign during the election. Still I give credit where credit is due. I thought that today's Inaugural Address by our new President was excellent. I hope the country listens carefully to his words. I wish him well!! Raven Report post Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) As a Brit this doesn't affect me anywhere near as much as it does those of you in the USA but I must say he gave the best speech, both for content and for delivery, of any politician I can recall. I hope he does great things for your country! Edited January 20, 2009 by Raven

ferret Report post Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) Don't be fooled, Obama is an interstellar alien with a secret mind control device ! I watched the speech and started getting feelings of hope and I gave up on that when the mad cow thatcher became prime minister. Anyone got a pattern for bevearslayers tinfoil hat? Art Report post Posted January 20, 2009 The speech was great oratory, the poet was dead awful, and the benediction was hilarious. That benediction will be playing long after the presidential words fade. "The black man don't have to step back, man; the brown man can hang around, man; the yellow man can be mellow, man; and the red man can get ahead, man." I wish the new president well. randyandclaudia Report post Posted January 20, 2009 If you know anything about the multiverse, you would understand that we are all interstellar aliens. The greatest thing that could possibly happen to this world would be the proving that life exists everywhere in the multiverse. At that exact moment when no one can dispute it, we will all become earthlings. Then perhaps we can all get along.

TrooperChuck Report post Posted January 20, 2009 I didn't vote for the guy, mainly because I feel we really don't know much about him. But, now that he is our president, he deserves a fair chance to do the job and prove he is worthy of the public trust we've given him. I missed his inaugural address, but I did hear the benediction. I thought it was great!
Art Report post Posted January 20, 2009 Hi Tony, Have not heard of a horse connection. Maybe the First Lady rides. I will ask around, but everyone will have their hands full for the next year, this president has a ton of stuff awaiting him. Wish him luck. Art But does he ride horses and is he in to leather?Tony. Washroad Report post Posted January 20, 2009 I didn't vote for him either. Today is historic. We changed the head of state without a revolution or violence. I may not like the man, but I can respect the office. I hope he does well and wish him the best. Leather? Hey, he looks like he just stepped off the cover of GQ magazine! Gotta be leather in his shoes and belt!

rawhide1 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Well I was up all night at work so I napped thru his speech. But the wife says it was a good one. I didn't vote for the fella but I wish him luck and I hope he can do some good. Everyone's making a big deal out of him being the first black president. But to tell the truth I really don't care what color ya are. Just do what you say your going to do and not just say it to get in office. And then once you get in go a whole nother route. I hope I don't make people mad but I don't have a lot of faith in politicians. Maybe he'll prove me wrong. Mike
TexasJack Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Last I checked, this is not a political forum. Not everyone is happy that the USA has decided to become a socialist nation. Peaceful transition? Great. Now let Texas secede peacefully and we can all be happy. Furthermore, speeches mean absolutely nothing. "The check is in the mail." I suggest that there are more appropriate forums for political argument.

The initial post was simply an evaluation of the speech and wishing the President well. Why are you posting to the thread and posting something controversial, if you object to politics here? That seems inconsistent to me. In any case, the thread was not started as an argument or to elicit argument.
Ian Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I'm trying to think of a single instance where who the president was affected my life. My goal is to design a life that is as far away from any government influence as possible. When your happiness is dependant on the government, you're a lost soul IMHO The most exciting thing that happened to me yesterday is that I learned how to do the trick braid - now THAT'S good stuff!! Unfortunately, they fixed that loophole in the Constitution right after the War Against The South. Elections, like civil wars, have consequences and we just lost another one. Soooo, just put down the remote and pick up a good book. It's gonna be a long 8 years and after that they will have rigged the election system so well with folks like ACORN that they'll probably win the next election too. By the way, did ya'll hear that Bill Ayers was not allowed into Canada? Yeah, apparently a good friend and associate of our new President is not welcome in Canada. They know a terrorist when they see one. As for this being off topic.... I must agree with Bree. It was marked.

Art Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Hi Randy, Here we are all inaugurated out. For the last two months, this town has been the ultimate wack job. It happens every four or eight years. New regime, everyone's either happy, elated or depressed. Now we will get back to the same old way this town's been running since the 1800s. The Federal Government is sooooooo big now that it would take a bulldozer the size of Texas to make it change course just a little bit. TO ALL, This is an Off Topic Forum in a thread labeled Political Content. If you keep it clean, and civil, and stay within the bounds of the Patriot Act, pretty much anything goes. All the moderators pretty much read every post in this forum thoroughly. Flaming and fighting are not things that are high on the list of things we like to see. Furthermore, if any hand slapping needs to be done, leave it to a mod, or if you think we are neglecting something, report the offending item. TrooperChuck Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I think Ian put it best... "When your happiness is dependant on the government, you're a lost soul." I want the government to protect our shores, negotiate treaties and agreements with other countries, fix our roads, make reasonable laws to protect the innocent from predators, make reasonable laws to protect our natural resources from those who don't care about tomorrow, and maybe a couple other things that I can't think of right now... I gladly pay my taxes in order to help the government to do the things I can't do by myself, but, for the most part, I just want the danged government to leave me alone. My biggest complaint about our government is the proliferation of professional life-long politicians. I believe our Founding Fathers intended elected officials to be temporary... it was to be a way to offer service to the the country. One could bring his or her knowledge, skills, and experience to help govern the country, but after a while you were supposed to go back to your real job so someone else could serve. Now, though, we have people ENTRENCHED in our government for so long that they become easy prey to lobbyists, corruption, and the full-time pursuit of doing whatever it takes to get re-elected. They've lost sight of the fact that it was supposed to be a SERVICE, not a CAREER. Okay, now I'll get off my soap box and let someone else have it. Jordan Report post Posted January 21, 2009 MLK said something about hoping someday his kids would be judged by their character, integrity and actions, or something like that. I was brought up to take people on pretty much the same principles. Which brings me to the conclusion that the man needs to be given the time to prove that he will walk the walk as well as talk the talk. He has got a real rough row to hoe so we will see. Also, He is an excellent orator, has alot of great ideas and seems to have the backbone to get stuff done so again we shall see, he is after all still a politician. The one thing that bugs me is the media barrage about his race. Seems they can't complete a sentence without stating the obvious! or is it, seems to me by the photos of his family he is, as he put it "a mutt", like a vast majority of Americans are. This country is after all a melting pot of all the worlds peoples. While his election is historic, the media should give it a rest! Besides it looks like voters pretty much indicated it is a non issue.

Washroad Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Everything is "politics." I do things at home to be sure that I'll get lucky. My wife knows exactly what I'm doing and why. Hey, it works. She gets what she wants, I get what I want. "America has no inheirtantly criminal class; except congress." Mark Twain I don't trust politicians at all. If reincarnation is true, a politician will have to live 10 more lives to reach the level of a cockroach.
