KWT Report post Posted April 15, 2009 My daughter and her husband just announced they are infanticipating (Paul Harvey, RIP). This will be the first grandchild for both sets of parents. I am trying to think of some gifts for the baby and parents to make from leather. So far, except for baby moccasins, I am drawing a blank. I have some carving skills and some construction skills, but am not an expert at any of it. I would appreciate any suggestions you all might provide. Suze Report post Posted April 15, 2009 well you HAVE to have a photo album or five.... with baby's name on it. But that might have to wait for a wee bit later. How about a little leather mallet and some "tools" (for the giggle anyway)
wildrose Report post Posted April 15, 2009 If you want to keep it simple, I recall that Tandy sells (sold?) a folding photo keeper, like that you could carry with you on trips or set up on your desk. I have one I did for my son's pics.
King's X Report post Posted April 15, 2009 I agree, you can't go bad with starting your first photo album for them. I am looking at our collection of PA and I am staring at 16 albums. You may be a novice now, but after 16, you will be a masterest?

cajun Report post Posted April 15, 2009 Rawhide ? for teething............. When I had my art gallery, we used to sell a frame and mat that I designed. You want to take a picture of the baby every month (try and use the same setting each time) and have them made is about a 3 X 5 , then take a picture when the baby is 1 yr. old and have that made into a 5 X7. You will want to make a leather mat with 12 oval openings for the 3 X 5's and one oval opening for the 5 X 7. I forgot to mention that you want a picture from the hospital when the baby is born. Now design the mat with the larger picture in the center and the other 12 pictures all around it. It will amaze you how the baby changes from month to month. Each month you just keep adding the new picture and watch that beautiful baby grow. You will cherish this for the rest of your life. kevinhopkins Report post Posted April 18, 2009 A really cool bib????
rhallskid Report post Posted April 20, 2009 A bib-great idea, have you seen the plastic ones that have a little shallow pocket along the bottom that is open--so when the food splats on there is slides into the pocket. Thinking the leather might be a bit slick. Or maybe a quick "Man Bag" for dad for the quick run to the store--hold a couple diapers, maybe a bottle, and a rag, maybe his cell phone

What type of leather would you use for one? I also like the "Man Bag" ("Dad Bag"??). I will look of pattern and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the ideas! wildrose Report post Posted April 22, 2009 I would probably use an upholstery leather, 'cuz you could wipe it down, for a bib. As to the "man bag", there've been some nice ones posted lately.
