This came into my Facebook page. I thought I would share. I know that most have already been aware of it, but not all.

I know this is a long time since the original post, but I've only been doing leather work for about 6 months and just found this web site. Here are a couple of the first things that I made for my daughters as a Christmas gift.

That is a very cool idea!  Nice work.  Your stitching looks particularly nice.

Thanks Chuck, hang in there you'll get it.I'm pretty new at leather work, I started last July. I timmed my self on this last one, it took me just over 10 hours from start to finish. Making the checkers and stiching is what took me so long. Lol.  The checkers is two 5 to 6 oz pieces glued together.

Well here it is a bit over my skill level, I kinda bit off more than I could chew I have more imagination than skill. I guess that's how you learn new stuff lol. A ton of mistakes but it looks good at five feet or so. The checkers are deer and elk antler.

That looks great from what I can see!  Love it.   And yes - imagination exceeding skill is how we learn!   Awesome!!

But do you have the time to play?

Bert.

These are really cool guys, thanks for sharing! One question though, does the board lay flat enough to easily play when it’s been stored rolled up for a while?

I use 5-6 oz leather that is pretty soft. When I unroll it, I  roll it the opposite direction then back again and it lays flat. I'm not sure about using heavier or stiffer leather.
