Members StevenSiegel Posted September 11, 2010 Members Report Posted September 11, 2010 Hi, In moving our warehouse to our new location, I came across my first leather project pictured above. My teacher was Benjamin Maleson. This was made from cowhide, hand stained. It was made in approximately 1969. Critiques? Comments??? Best, Steven Siegel Quote
dirtclod Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 Looks like you did a fine job to me. Quote
Members builderofstuff Posted September 12, 2010 Members Report Posted September 12, 2010 I really like it! I recently bought the Tandy pattern pack for making vests. I hope when I finally get around to making one it comes out as nice as that. Chris Quote
Ambassador Luke Hatley Posted September 12, 2010 Ambassador Report Posted September 12, 2010 A very fine looking Vest. will it still fit you ? Quote
acox4t4 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Haha I was going to ask that same question about if it still fits? Model it for us so we can see how it looks on ya. Looks like a very nice piece of work even without you wearing it Quote

I notice your interest in rawhide. It reminds me of the time a friend made some rawhide underwear as a gag gift for the holidays many years ago. Quote
Members CitizenKate Posted September 12, 2010 Members Report Posted September 12, 2010 That's nice... looks like something that can only get better with age and wear. Kate Quote

Members joquarter Posted September 12, 2010 Members Report Posted September 12, 2010 That's a nice vest, it reminds me at the leather suit , someone in Amsterdam , made for my hubby 25 years ago for our wedding in westernstyle. The suit and hat are still in topcondition , but my hubby doesn't fit it anymore. Here a pic of it at our 25 years anniversery: Quote
Members Sparks Posted September 22, 2010 Members Report Posted September 22, 2010 I'm sure you started with an outstanding piece of leather! Looks great! Members Laura Hansen Posted September 23, 2010 Members Report Posted September 23, 2010 I like it. the matching jetted pockets and button holes are pretty advanced for a first project. Envy your having a teacher. I have yet to find a mentor. Hi, In moving our warehouse to our new location, I came across my first leather project pictured above. My teacher was Benjamin Maleson. Members Casey Jordan Posted September 23, 2010 Members Report Posted September 23, 2010 I wish my first projects turned out that good. I have some of my old belt I keep around as a reminder of my slight improvement over the years. Thanks for sharing. Quote
EricDobson Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 Definitely impressive for a first project. I'm sure it took a lot of patience to get that kind of quality the first time around. Laura: I'm sure you'll find one if you stick with it. If you keep posting to the board with your questions and pictures of your work, and stay motivated, you'll prove your dedication to people here who can probably connect you with a mentor at some point.
