Members CitizenKate Posted November 27, 2010 Members Report Posted November 27, 2010 Just wanted to pass along an interesting find I stumbled upon that I don't think very many of us know about. This merchant has an interesting assortment of leatherworking tools and supplies, much of the typical stuff, but also some fairly unique and unusual products (at least in the US market), including stamps, swivel knives, an interesting assortment of punches, powdered dyes (that mix with alcohol, and can be shipped by air)... those are just some of the things I noticed. http://www.goodsjapan.jp/servlet/the-Leather-Craft-Items/Categories Kate Quote
Members cem Posted November 27, 2010 Members Report Posted November 27, 2010 Thanks for the link Kate looks like they have their own shop now as I remember seeing them on Ebay, I have been eyeing off some of the books they sell as some seem to have been published recently. Cheers, Clair Quote
Members Tina Posted November 27, 2010 Members Report Posted November 27, 2010 Thanks a Million Kate, the dyepowder looks more than interesting:-) Quote
Members Big O Posted November 27, 2010 Members Report Posted November 27, 2010 I've bought two of their awls through their eBay store. They're ridiculously sharp. You don't even feel them go into your finger, just wonder where the red dye came from...... BUT.....it doesn't last long - about 1.5 holsters. And, the blade will pull out of the handle fairly quickly. The prices are very, very right, though. So.....keep a sharpening stone and a tube of super glue handy if you're going to use their awls. King's X Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Simon Bennett is the proprietor and he is great to work with. I have purchased several books from him and even though they are written in Japanese they are ridiculously visual with many photographs to help any crafter without the language. I have also purchased some of the swivel knifes and they are much better than the Tandy general swivel knifes. The actions are smooth and spin without skipping a beat. You will not be dissatified with the service from GoodsJapan. Enjoy! Quote
Members Old Ghillie Posted December 14, 2010 Members Report Posted December 14, 2010 I have purchased 3 of the swivel knives, without blades, and can only recommend them for quality, price and free shipping from Japan. They are similar to Tandy's but less money and smoother swivel. I have a total of 9 swivel knives but these are my favourite. Gary Quote

Members SteelheadFineGoods Posted March 17, 2013 Members Report Posted March 17, 2013 I've been very happy with my purchases from GoodsJapan. I love the books that they carry, but unfortunately I don't speak Japanese. Quote
Members jk215 Posted March 22, 2013 Members Report Posted March 22, 2013 Will also put in a good review for Goods Japan. Shipping takes a long time to the states (Im used to one day shipping from Tandy) but its worth it. Great stuff. Quote
Members mcjerjer Posted May 10, 2013 Members Report Posted May 10, 2013 I'm thinking of buying this kit to start my leatherworking: http://www.goodsjapan.jp/item/leather-craft-items-leathercra/craft-sha-leathercraft-leather/lid=29748680 Would this have everything I need? Does the groover work to make those edge creases? I know it doesn't come with a wheel spacer, but hopefully the prickers/chisels will do just as good of a job. Should I be concerned that I'm not using a soft mallet, as it includes a wooden one? Thanks! Quote
