BanjoMan Report post Posted April 11, 2011 Need help guys! I'm working on my first motorcycle seat and so far it is coming along well. I have completed all of my tooling on the top and back and I'm in the process of lacing the pieces together. The next big step is going to be installing the cover to the cover, forming, attatching, etc. The seat is off of an H-D Street Bob. It is basically a heavy plastic pan with a foam top. What is the best adhesive for glueing the top section of the cover to the foam when I get ready to mount the cover? I am scared of certain products because I do not want to risk damaging the leather or allowing the glue/adhesive to bleed through the top. Please give me your comments and advice on the pro's and con's of using an adhesive or not using an adhesive, and if you use one what do you use? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Nooj Report post Posted April 12, 2011 I'm interested to see your seat Banjo man. I have a street bob that I'm planning on doing the seat for (because I wrecked it and tore the seat up...). I'm also curious about how the plastic pan is to work with. If you have any tips or encounters while working with it I'd be delighted to hear about it. Good luck. Gluing the top down is done quite often, & there is nothing at all wrong with doing so. Especially on wet formed rigid mounted seats. Thanks for your help! You are correct in thinking that gluing the leather top down to the surface of the foam will help alot when you wet form the cover to the shape of the seat. Jimbob Report post Posted April 21, 2011 Howdy Certainly can and should glue your top to the foam.....as spoken, will secure it to center when stretching and pulling to form and shape skirts around edges! Also as said, hard ass no or little foam need to be glued period....never glue vinyl to foam!! I use Barger cement,,,,you only get one shot to lay it down straight....and I mean one shoot only...!! After that it stays on period and will not harm foam or leather, no wrinkels, shifts or any goofy tricks...I have dudes they ride with me scooters where I made the seat for 50K and more...never had a problem!! remember these seats are not for show, they meant to be ridden hard....and I mean hard....... greetings Jimbob Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
