I am looking for the best song to tool into a Bible cover. My plan is to have a celtic style cross on the front and on the back have the words/music to a song or a hymn. Been thinking about this for a couple days and can not pin down the song to use yet. I am leaning towards a hymn, but not yet sure. Possibly a modern song. I do want it to be a song that everyone will recognise, weather or not they know the words. I am thinking of the layout looking something like below. Input please!

Cool idea. That is the song I was going to suggest.

I think if I did that, . . . I'd use "Amazing Grace". Not that one song is better than another, . . . but it is much shorter, . . . and I would think it would be easier to do for the first one.

Then if I liked it well enough, . . . go back and do another one with longer lines, . . . such as the song you pictured.

Mine has a simple cross, . . . with the sun behind it, . . .

May God bless,

Dwight

"Amazing Grace" was my first thought but "The Old Rugged Cross" was definitely my grandmother and her daughter, my mom, favorite of all hymns.

I carved the music and words to "Stardust" into a wallet for a Band Leader years ago.

So the more I think about this the two other ideas that I have are to use the Lords prayer or the Footprints poem. I really am not worried about the dificulty of it, more the overall finished product. I do like the idea of the music being included with the words... I looked through some of the Psalter songs too and did not find any that stood out there. Amazing Grace was also my first though.

I keep going back and forth on this.

Here is a sample of using letterpress moveable lead type to impress text into leather. Great for long small text:

Bob,

That is excellent. I have done some but not as many words as yours. The Arbor Press will imprint the lettering also.

The atheist votes for "Lord of the Dance" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_of_the_Dance_(hymn)

Bob,

Letterpress is how I planned on doing this. If I use a song and include the music I will likely have a plate carved to do the impression. If it is just text, I will use font that I have to do it.

Be Thou My Vision is my all time favorite. It is Well With My Soul is great too. I'm a fanatic about most traditional hymns, though, so I'd have a hard time picking. There is a great selection of Scottish/Irish hymns - Michael Card has a cd Starkindler that has some good choices on it.
