Members WinterBear Posted January 24, 2012 Members Report Posted January 24, 2012 This one is just for me... I got a Kindle for Christmas and of course it needed a cover!! That's really nice, and a clever front. Love the bookcase with the stacked books. I have an older model Kindle my sister gave me when she upgraded, and I hate the case. The first cases they made are not very good at holding the Kindle securely. You've inspired me to make my own case! Quote
Members Jazznow Posted January 24, 2012 Members Report Posted January 24, 2012 Absolutly wonderful. Quote
Members steelhawk Posted January 25, 2012 Members Report Posted January 25, 2012 That is simply great. Quote
HARVEY Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 This one is just for me... I got a Kindle for Christmas and of course it needed a cover!! [/quot Over my shoulder, my wife was looking at this . . . thanks for making my life miserable! (Nah, just kiddin') This is really quite the piece. With all the fine detail coloring and painting, all tolled, how many hours are in this? Harvey Los Angeles Quote
Members JLS Posted January 26, 2012 Author Members Report Posted January 26, 2012 Harvey- the tooling and painting part was a little over 20 hours, construction somewhere between 4 and 6 and the lacing was done in front of the TV... so total maybe 35 hours?? I don't really tally hours when it is for me or immediate family. That Labor of Love stuff!! WinterBear- Have fun making one of your own, it is well worth it. To everyone else: Thank you! Quote
Members gicts Posted January 27, 2012 Members Report Posted January 27, 2012 Stunning colors and great details! Quote

This is gorgeous, as a total newbie to this wonderful craft this is totally inspiring! Can I ask a couple of newbie silly questions? What type and weight of leather did you use for the different areas? the lacing is awesome and I think I get the width but what 'thickness' did you use? thanks in advance and thanks for the inspiration! Kat Kat~ The tooling leather is 4/5 oz, the cover leather is chrome tanned upholstry weight about 3oz, the interior was lined with garment weight pig skin approx. 1 to 2 oz. There are stiffeners between the cover and lining made of black illustration board and the lacing style is called mexican basket weave done in 1/8 inch calf lace... if you are a member of FaceBook, I have a page with picture albums that shows a picture progression of it. www.facebook.com/janlynent Have fun with your project...
