Tim Schroeder Report post Posted July 7, 2012 My workshop is in my formal dining room. My wife won't let me let it get to out of control. One question I have about stropping. I use a leather wheel on the side of my wet stone sharpener. Three revolutions on each side and the blade is back where it should be. Effortless stropping for me. Does anybody else use one of these stropping wheels? The one tool I'm looking forward to getting is a Bell Skiver. I skive everything by hand and it really looks like crap because it is not smooth enough. I need lots of tools that would make things faster. Thanks Tim

When i was in the Navy and we were living in rented accommodation, it was a case of having to make do with a portable work station . When i retired i converted a garage and carport to my 'man cave'. I have a reverse cycle air conditioner, a flat screen TV with Foxtel, A Jason Reclining chair and a iMac connected to the Internet. I have attached a number of images and am glad to be of assistance if you need details on anything.[quote name Regards, TapTapTap

cdthayer Report post Posted December 4, 2013 Hey Andy, Charlene looks a little grumpy there. Maybe you woke her up from her after-snack nap? (I have a little work buddy named Rex.) CD in Oklahoma

AndyH Report post Posted December 4, 2013 Hey CD thanks for the link. There's 3 reasons she may be grumpy: 1-it's around 1:00a.m., 2- that space is probably a bit cramped (but the only place she'll lay), 3- she don't like her picture taken... We have 2 dogs & 2 cats who all love being in the garage/shop with me. I need to install a doggie door! What kinda dog is your Rex? Charlene is half shi-tzu & half blue heeler (dont ask...) with the personality of a heeler. Anyone else have "shop pets/mascots"?
cdthayer Report post Posted December 4, 2013 It’s nice to have a shop dog. I couldn’t get along without mine. He’s a mix, but he looks like a half-sized Black Lab when he “puts on the dog”. My son has a full-size Black Lab that we babysit once in a while, and they’re built about the same, just a different size. I do a lot of my sewing (canvas and vinyl covers) out on my back patio in his yard where I can have table space to handle large pieces. Rex is just a 3-year old, and a Champion Tennis Ball Catcher (in his mind anyway), so we have to take regular ball-catchin’ breaks while we’re supposed to be working. When I’m sewing in my small bike shop, Rex will often drop a tennis ball next to me, and if I don’t get it right away, he sits looking out the glass door watching the world go by for a while, and then gives up and retires to his loveseat in the wife’s sewing room until I get up and walk around the next time. Then he comes back, finds his ball, and the whole thing starts over again. CD in Oklahoma
AndyH Report post Posted December 5, 2013 That sounds like a pretty good dog! Good age too- out of the puppy stage when everything is a chew toy lol. Mine is 1 1/2 years old. No tricks or fetch-playing. She's pretty serious usually but she does have a monkey toy that is never too far away... You're right, it is nice to have a shop dog! Especially one that tolerates off-key singing with the radio...which, along with a coffee maker are 2 necessities in my shop.
RiverCity Report post Posted December 7, 2013 Now I need to insulate the damn garage door........ Chuck
AndyH Report post Posted December 7, 2013 I like your setup Chuck. Looks very efficient. Is your table reinforced for excessive pounding/ punching/ etc? And if so, with what? I'd like to have a worktable that size! I'd probably need it on casters though. Ok I already talked myself into it... next project- a table like Chucks!... thanks for the inspiration

Ok I already talked myself into it... next project- a table like Chucks!... thanks for the inspiration I framed it like a house, I don't have final pics with reinforcements before the top went on. It also has secondary cripple studs between the main cripple studs. The top is a solid core door, screwed down well, and the granite I got for free. It weighs close to 150 lbs by itself. It doesn't bounce any amount that is noticeable. Total table weight it probably 200-250 without the granite. 450+ with granite and all the other crap on there.
