Members Davy Posted September 29, 2012 Members Report Posted September 29, 2012 AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! I've got a hollow body arch top that sounds great . How does the leather affect the sound of it ? I could image it feels great to hold too . Great job mate !!!!!! Quote
Members Redd Posted March 9, 2014 Members Report Posted March 9, 2014 I've always wondered if the affects the sound or the sustain. They look cool as hell. Quote
David Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) Of course it affect the sound, there is a reason why professional luthiers DON'T cover their guitars in leather. It even distorts the sound of solid body guitars....how many professional musicians have you seen with leather covered guitars? Edited March 9, 2014 by David Quote
Members Eccho Posted March 9, 2014 Members Report Posted March 9, 2014 Looks cool, but I don't think anyone who appreciates the sound of their guitar is going to be interested. I have a 1959 Martin acoustic, and a 1967 CBS Masterworks acoustic, and they both just sound better every year. As the wood ages and drys it gets mellower. I bring my Martin with me to Texas in the winter, and there is a noticeable difference in the sound just with the change in humidity levels. During high humidity, whether in Canada or the U.S. , I keep desicant packs in the guitar case to avoid any kind of warp. Having said that, I am sure wrapping an acoustic in leather is going to deaden the sound big time. I am not a fan of solid bodies but I would think they too would be affected. However!!!!!!!!!!! There are thousands of non played guitars hanging from walls, and used as decor items, and they would certainly be conversation pieces wrapped in leather and braided...........I have to learn to write short hand. :>) Quote
Members eLw Posted March 18, 2014 Author Members Report Posted March 18, 2014 Thanks for your replies! The leather models do sound great, though. Here's a link to a you tube video we made with one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Omt0SkERyhc You can hear a leather guitar being played in the background through the video and Lisa McCormick, an indie songwriter tries one live towards the end. Let me know your opinions and thanks. Quote
