My wife and I are going to a get together with some new friends this holiday weekend. Since the hosts are telling us "not to bring anything" we decided that a hand made token would be nice. I decided on the wine bottle carrier becasue they are cool Thanks to Tina for the inspiration!!

a little backgraound to explain the design...

1) it's for wine

2) He is a Boat Captain

3) I like mermaids!

Let me know what you think!

Very good looking Frog! The tooling and colouring looks great so he's gonna be a happy captain.

It's a very generous gift!

But it makes me feel bad since I wanted to do a toolbagstyle carrier for the president of our whisky society who's turning 40 tomorrow and I just have to finish off the queline I have, being sick and all. Feel so much like doing it!

Nice work Frog!!

Did you sew a round on the bottom?

I am thinking about making one for my friend who makes mead, some of the best mead I have ever tasted.... Hoping if I give him one of those I might get a bottle of mead lol.

Brad, Yes I added a plug in the bottom and if you look closely, you can see the stitch lines along the bottom frame of the design. Basically just over cut a round, skived it down, cut some relief "V"s in it and sewed it in. I'll try to get a pic uploaded tomorrow of it.

Mmmmmm, mead good!

Cool design. I like it! Is it insulated?

Frog.

That is gorgeous. I would love to have a stencil of the art you used on your carrier.

Cheers.

Art, no insulation except the 8/9 oz leather! That should do for short time, how long does it take to drink a bottle of wine????

C79, pm me you email and it's all yours......

Frog....hope you don't mind that I'm ripping off your idea...wine making friends of ours are moving away and this would be a perfect gift for them....I was all caught up with the notion that the carrier had to have a top on it and couldn't figure that out....now I see that it looks great w/o a top.

I won't attempt carving like yours...my mermaid would turn out fat and ugly.....but grapes, I may try.

Great looking job...thanks!!

You may wanna look into more of a case type setup. If you havnt allready I would check out al stohlmans three volumes on case making.

Im thinking of making one of these for my jym beam bottles but with a little hook eyelet so I can hang it under the counter
