Froghunter Report post Posted September 7, 2008 Well, Friday night and Saturday were banner tooling days at the Boston Tandy. Jim challenged a number of leatherworkers with a new pattern, and of course walked them through the process step by step! The pattern was made to fit on the small binder kit we have at the store, just in case anyone wants to try this one out! Jim told me that he had just finished drawing up the pattern last Monday, and hadn't even had a chance to tool it himself yet! It was a good combination of traditional "Jim Linnell" Floral and some great figure carving. The students were excited as they arrived Friday evening to begin the workshop, we tooling till about 9pm and the heavy eyelids won out and everyone broke for the evening. The Saturday was a full day with everyone finishing up around 4pm. We even had a bit of time for Jim to show us some great dying and finishing techniques! The workshop was a TON of fun and I encourage ANYONE, regardless of your skill level, if Jim comes to your neck of the woods to teach a workshop, attend it! For those of you who are attnding the IFOLG later this year.....sign up for Jim's class, you won't be sorry! Jim - Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to conduct this workshop at my store. It meant a lot to me and our students! And for anyone who wants to give the pattern a go, I will be scanning it and posting it here as soon as I can!!!!

tashabear Report post Posted September 8, 2008 WOW that was an intense day and a half! Jim is just an amazing leatherworker and a super nice guy. The class was incredibly challenging for me, but he never once made me feel like it was something I couldn't do. It was also great to meet the other students -- I hope we'll see each other again in other classes.
