I haven't posted any holsters lately, so I thought I'd put up a couple of recent builds

I've been about as busy as this retired guy wants to be..... I visit so many sites that I sometimes forget to stop by on this one. This is the only leatherworking site that I frequent, but I like to hang out on some of the pistol forums.

Every time I see one of your new holsters, I get depressed. They are so well done that I look at my own latest project attempts with disappointment. Your design is clean and the execution is almost perfect. I do my "snapcakes" styles a little differently, but I sure like the style of yours. Good job!

How do you layout and dye the front side of the straps on the two tone holsters? Any chance you could post a photo of the holster back?

Your holster are elegant and beautiful. One nice think about the 1911 is that it lends itself to a more elegant holster. Keep on hanging out on those pistol forums. I think we all hang out on the pistol forums and the leatherworker forum.

Supercub...on the straps, I simply make a 'hard' line (I use a groover) part way up the straps and change colors such that it can be seen only from the back. I don't have a pic of the back loaded up, but maybe I can snap one today and post.

Vaalpens...I agree regarding the 1911 profile lending itself well to a tightly boned holster. I've built many similar holsters for other firearms and they don't always provide the same aesthetics

I used to buy guns with the same action and about the same size and feel so that I can use any one of them for SD without any problems. Now that I am making holsters I am actually looking at guns not just how they would go with my other guns, but also if it would lend itself to a more elegant or old school type holster. I don't have a 1911, but I am actually now thinking of buying a 1911 just so I can design a holster around it. Leather working is getting expensive now, but I'm not complaining if in the process I can add to my gun variety.

I hear ya there, Vaalpens. I LOVE my 1911s. And, like you say, building holsters makes a guy think he needs more pistols!...
