Members paprhangr Posted February 20, 2014 Members Report Posted February 20, 2014 When making belts that I hope to sell later, I figured I would cut them long,have everything finished and stitched except the buckle end, then when the belt is sold, I can cut to size, make up the buckle end install the buckle. This I could finish the belt on location Question.... When I skive at the buckle fold I will be cutting the threads which could cause the stitching to unravel back toward the tongue....Ooops. What do you guys do? I'm all ears Quote

I have only seen single layer belts done this way. When customers ask if I can shorten an older, 2 pc, stitched belt of mine, I tell them no...I don't like how it looks afterwards. Northmount Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Note that Coach uses a clamp-on buckle, so no skiving, no fold. If the buckle is put on as soon as the belt is cut to length, then the threads will be clamped as well (assuming the clamp is full belt width). So the threads shouldn't unravel. The keeper just slides on. You could put a rivet in it or a couple stitches by hand. Tom Quote
Members paprhangr Posted February 22, 2014 Author Members Report Posted February 22, 2014 I tried one , hit it with my lighter,melt the cut thread ends, wet a little at the fold on back side, tighten down with chi screws, put a clamp on it for a few minutes, Should be ok, Quote
