I made my hard patterns and as I almost always do, I made a sample out of some vinyl fabric. Being about 1.5 oz in thickness, the 1/2" added length to the back piece was quite a bit too long. I expected this and realize that thicker leather will require a longer back piece to allow for a good fold. But, is there any rule of thumb to figure out exactly how much longer to make it? Or do most people just make it longer and then trim it down after dry fitting the front and back together? Also, is there an neat tricks to making sure all of the edges line up prior to sewing? Glue them together maybe? Thanks Quote Tom Gregory Legacy Leathercraft www.legacyleathercraft.com www.etsy.com/shop/legacyleathercraft

Members Wdfd908 Posted June 21, 2016 Members Report Posted June 21, 2016 First off...thank you for template! I just made my first wallet out of 2-2.5 oz Asian Buffalo. It came out beautifully. I cut out all the pieces and then rubbed them with neatsfoot oil. Once assembled, I put three coats of neatsfoot and beeswax on the outside and one on the inside. The thread is .40 from Maine Thread Company. A couple things to note: 1) yes I overglued. And 2) I do not discriminate on scratches, brands, bug bites, etc. enjoy! Quote

Members Missvlaa Posted August 8, 2016 Members Report Posted August 8, 2016 Thank you so much. This will be my first try with leather. My third anniversary is at the end of August and it is the "Leather Anniversary" so I thought I would try to make my husband a wallet. Quote

Members Haellyn Posted January 15, 2017 Members Report Posted January 15, 2017 Thanks for posting this template. The end result looks nice and the directions are easy to follow. I got a different template out of a Stohlman book, so I'm going to try making both. Quote
Members Mattsbagger Posted January 15, 2017 Members Report Posted January 15, 2017 Thanks for sharing. I've used it to make a couple wallets. I use 3 oz on inside 5 oz on outside. Seems to work out good. Quote
